Default How would you start tuning with these mods

ok, I have to start tuning with my st on a 2006 sti I have the following mods.

perrin gt35r kit "complete kit"
44mm tial wastegate with 1.2 bar spring
860 helix inj.
hyperflow v2 tmic with a turbosmart dual port bov
perrin fuel rail kit
walbro 255
Stock Ebcs, thinking about putting on a manual boost controller to make it easier to tune.

soon to be installed aquamist alky kit


I just want some info on how to start tuning this in street tuner, I cant use rescaled stg 2 maps, as there are none out yet for the 2006 sti.

I would have to say that this is NOT a car to learn to tune on. You'll need to be able to differentiate between mechanical issues (there will be several) and tuning issues. Not something that is easy to do as a beginner. It's hard enough to learn how to tune on a healthy car on your own. Take the car to someone experienced to tune it.

I was thinking the same thing, but I dont have anyone within 3 hours of where I live, and 8 hours if I want a good tuner.

I will see what I can find on the net.

I'm sorry to hear that. I would suggest the "good" tuner if you can. He should be able to get you a map that will enable you to limp your way wherever he is.

if you have the money, fly a tuner up to tune your car.

Don't install the Big MAF. Tune the injectors on a stock-type 65mm MAF tube. Then install the Big MAF and tune the MAF. Tuning both together will just make you run around in circles.

How did you go about doing that. I have a 3 inch inlet, and not real sure what to use for my adapter for the stock maf.

I would contact Christian @ COBB Tuning, he was nice enough to provide me with a working base map for my mods when I upgraded my turbo & injectors. I drove around for a short period of time until I could get Dyno tuned by someone with experience. This will be one of the most important aspects of your upgrade, don't skimp on it.........

I talked to Christian and he is working on a map to get it to run. I hope he gets a chance to get it done soon..

i would def heat wrap your turbo and downpipe because heat soak is going to kill you. the best thing to do would be to get meth injection (and get your car to a good tuner).

whoa gt35 with tmic( ) never heard of that one, man thats gonna be some heat soak, i bought my 725fmic just so i could run the gt35. hey hows the kit fit i heard alot of negative things about it?

Lets just say, it wasnt "fun" to install, but I think it fit great. You wont have to mess with the tmic setup, that was to toughest part to get the turbo to meet in the stock location of the tmic.


Just take your time and you will be fine. I did it in parts over about 3 days, plus I put a twin plate in. That wasnt fun either, but worth it.
