IWSTI Addict since: May 2003 Trader Rating: (7) | Been talking with Cobb tech support...still seems like the ECU choked on something. So the ECU and my Accessport took a ride to Utah today...and to get up and running ASAP I bought Nivek's ECU which I hope to have by the weekend. If Cobb can salvage mine then I'll have a backup . If they can't pinpoint what went wrong I think I'm done with Street Tuner; instead I'll just get a Protune and not touch the thing... Too bad because there's plenty of people with Street Tuner that haven't had this problem, but ECU's get expensive real quick. |

| dances with roads | The TARI software ostensibly lets you offload a copy of your ECU software to your pc, then upload it back onto the ECU. (No, I haven't tried it myself.) But if it works it would be a very, very nice means of creating a little peace of mind for Street Tuner folks. Now all we need is someone with a spare ECU to try it out... |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2003 Trader Rating: (7) | Well that's it for the ECU, it's confirmed to be as dead as Chef in South Park. The really troubling part is Cobb has no idea why...could be cell phone interference, nearby high voltage, solar flares, or maybe an electron was spinning the wrong direction. So I learned my lesson, no more Street Tuner for me - not worth the risk of replacing another ECU ($616 new). Anyone want to buy a Street Tuner? I will likely stick with the Accessport and just do a protune. One flash and done... |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2003 Trader Rating: (7) | That's correct, Street Tuner isn't at fault. Something happened while flashing a basemap. But the way I see it, with Street Tuner I tend to flash more often tinkering with stuff. That's why now I'll just do one protune and be done with it - no more flashes than needed. Still plenty of people have flashed basemaps no problem so odds are you'd be ok. But the new ECU just stole my SMC funds...don't want THAT to happen again. |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2003 Trader Rating: (7) | last update...installed a used ECU, car fired right up. Yup, that was the problem. It sure makes me miss Stage 2 or better...now I'm way slower with the stock mapping. Autocross on Sunday will be a bit disappointing in the acceleration department. So I'm certainly going back to stage 2 when I get the AP back...then a Protune, and done. No extra flashes for me. |
