Default Help with STREETTUNER!!!! URGENT!!!

So I HAD accessport and street tuner software. As I removed the accessport from the car and the streettuner software from the acessport, I managed to delete all the base maps. Now that the car isnt on ap software andmore the AP send me directly to "Select a base map to upload" screen. WIth no basemaps to load, I cant get pass this screen. How do I go about linking this thing up to the computer so I can get my stage 2 basemap back on the AP?

I called cobb, and they told me that ALL acessports had to be sent in with $100 to go back from street tuner to acessport? WTF is that? Like the $645 for th AP and the $445 for the street tuner isnt enough? Now they want to charge me to send it in to fix something that I am sure is just a fancy button process that take the AP into COnnect to pc mode.

So, you want to download the maps to your AP again, right?
Take a look at the manual. The connection with the PC is pretty straight forward.

I read, ,re read that book.

I guess I wasnt clear..

I No longer have the AP flashed onto my car. Anytime I power the AP up it says "Select a base map to upload to computer" with no basemaps I am unable to select one. So how do I go about connecting the AP to my pc, WITHOUT PRIOR FLASHED ON TO THE CAR. I know you can access the menu once flashed onto the car, however its not flashed onto the car. It always asks to select a base map.

Ohhh, OK I see what you are saying. All you have to do, is press the UP and DOWN arrows together as you're powering up the unit from the AC adapter. By doing this, it will let you download maps to the AP before you do an ECU reflash.

Are you sure you have the serial port enabled from the BIOS? Try to use other COMs like COM2, COM3 or COM4. I would call Cobb tech support. They are very helpful.

"COBB told me that since you were using StreetTUNER with this AP, it is now a StreetTUNER AP and cannot be used with the stand alone Map Manager Software.

The first time you connected the AP to your computer using StreetTUNER, you upgraded the firmware on the AP to become a StreetTUner AccessPORT. The only way to revert it back to a regular AccessPORT is to send it to COBB. This is going to cost me close to $100 and will take a couple of weeks to complete."

From the person I sold the AP to...

Basically Im upset over the fact that I have to send in the AP to go back to a regualr AP. Now I guess its my fault for not understanding this from the get go, but still why. Why? Its it that hard to simply program it in to the software to revert back to a regular ap?

I just went through the instructions with the street tuner and no where did it mention once you install this on your AP you will have to send it back to uninstall.

The process is straight forward. If you have unmarried the AP from the vehicle, then properly uninstalled the StreetTUNER software, following the instructions and having the AP connected to the computer then the AP will be a regular AP and allow ProTUNER maps to be loaded onto it. You should have no reason to ship it back to us unless something with the unmarried or unistallation process was not properly performed.

Did the person who purchased your AP not purchase your StreetTUNER software as well?

Christian.

No he wanted just the AP, so I sold him just the AP.

I did uninstall the ST software from the AP, however cobb says that the fireware of teh AP is now An ST AP so I woul dhave to use the ST map managment software, unless I sent it in for them to revert the firmware back to just the AP.

That should not be the case. If you unmarried the AP, then properly uninstalled the StreetTUNER software, the AP will go back to a normal AP. Please be sure to use the latest version of the Map Manager software, v1.65 = http://www.accessecu.com/support/apmm_v1.65.exe

Has the person you sold the AP tried to load the maps you can download from our website? For STi = http://cobbtuning.com/sti/accessport/index.html

Who did you speak with here? I want to make sure we are all on the same page here.

Take care,
Christian.

Christian
You have direct line I can call you on monday, or have the guy I sold it to call you. He has the AP in front of him so I am about useless unless I have it you know?

Yes we have tried all the map software, new and old. I went through the book and unstalled everything the way I thought I should have. Now I dont remember excatly what I did, but I dont remember having to remove any firmware off the AP.

I think that is really bush-league for them to do it that way. It only serves one purpose for COBB, to make more money. If it's only a matter of firmware, they could have made it so it re-flashes the old firmware. Seems like COBB is at it again with their marketing schemes.

No, not a scheme at all, I am just trying to help boosted2000si out. I will pay attention to this thread to read what he is saying here.

When you uninstall the StreetTUNER software it asks you to connect the AP to your computer so it can return it to a normal AP. If that procedure was not followed as stated in the instructions and prompted by the software then I may not be able to assist, the AP may have to be sent in for conversion.

Take care,
Christian.

Two things .....

1) Cobb is one of the most honest companies I know.
2) The problem in this post seems to be that the AP was unmarried from the car before the StreetTUNER software was uninstalled. The directions were not followed properly. This would probably require that the AP be sent back to Cobb to be 'fixed' due to negligence on the part of the person uninstalling it.

Now, with all of that said, I have seen on occasion problems with communication at Cobb. What we really want is someone like Christian answering the phones We would always get the correct answer. However, that wouldn't be a good use of Christian's talents - lol. I know that Cobb is working at improving internal communication. That is a good thing.

FWIW, I see no problem in Cobb charging money to fix a bad uninstall of the StreetTUNER software. Now, $100 does seem like a tad bit too much money. I would charge the going shop rates for stuff. Figure maybe $125/hr. This probably takes about 20-30 minutes to fix (with setup times, unpacking, packing, etc). I think $50 + shipping would be more fair. But, maybe I'm wrong? If it takes closer to an hour to fix everything up then $100 is totally fair.
