Default In the 12's but not by far :-)

Well, it was a nice cool (48 F) in MI today... I could not resist taking the STI to the track for the last time this season.

I filled up with 100-octane lead free last night and fine-tuned my maps.

I did run my best ET and MPH but the ET was not confirmed on paper... my luck, the printer went on the fritz after my pass

My two boys and a co-worker were watching and captured the pass: 12.99 @ 104.48. It was pretty cool, I had radio communication with them and as soon as the data was posted they told me. Even though it was only a 12.99, I was hooting and hollering all the way to the time-shack. Only to be disappointed with no printout. We even went to the tower to get a re-print...no luck

Key points about the changes I made to tweak the map for 100 octane:
  • 1.70 timing advance across the entire primary ignition map
  • .70 or 1.05 increase to each cell that had a value in it on all three dynamic advance maps (A,B&C). FYI.. I did this at the track after noticing the ECU was pulling timing with no knock. This change kept the timing steady through the rest of the day (5 more passes)
  • Leaned the AFR (mid to high 11's)
I had traction problems all day, my best 60' was probably the 12.99 pass, and others were 1.88 to 2.00.

My last race was against another STI, he had 100 octane, TBE & Cobb stage 2. I ran a 13.1780 @ 104.43 with a 1.9282 60". He ran a 13.3858 @ 102.98 with a 1.9789 60"

I have attached my map and 12.99 data-log for your review.

Not sure, he seemed to do OK. US 131 Motorsports Park track seems to be slow compaired to others. Next year, I plan to "travel" a bit to prove it out. I have raced a couple of other STI's at this track and all have been slower than my slow...

That's a shame they didn't have a printout for you. Did you get any kind of money off since you couldn't verify your results? I would have been disapointed with the track...

I was very disappointed but with drag racing... the track is never wrong, I gave up complaining years ago. I was happy with my two boys’ and coworker seeing it. Next year, I will get it in writing

Congrads on breaking into the 12's! Nice trap too, the race gas really helps, its so addictive, I know! Not having a printout sux but this will give you more incentive to go back to the track and try to hammer out another 12 sec timeslip. I myself and hoping to go this fall and crack 12's on street tires.

Hint: you need to be a good driver to get into 12's.

I am hoping that this is your way of joking around and that 'Nolimits' understands your method of joking around? One thing I won't tolerate on this board is personal attacks.

Thanks for the post, I really struggled with making the decision between the SRT-4 and my STI. I work at DENSO in the New Product Introduction Department. Many years ago, when the SRT-4 was a Supercharged concept car I was dreaming about owning one if they every made it for the open market. DENSO got the radiator business for the SRT-4 and I jumped at the opportunity to be the project coordinator. It was a blast working with the folks in Chryslers PVO team to bring the SRT up.

Good luck with getting into the 12's with street tires.. I can't even imagine the trick driving required to do that. Actually, I am struggling big time with getting my AWD STI to hook up. I need to check into better drag tires next season.

Take care,
