Boost leak somewhere, some how. You're loosing pressure and the ECU is trying to compensate. I would try to build a Home Depot pressure tester.

Can you expand on this?

I have a compression tester, but, I don't know how I'd pressurize the system properly...

It would look something like this , but you would need it to fit inside the accordion hose that connects to the MAF. You will also need a compressor with a good regulator attached. You'll want to keep pressure very constant with no spikes.

Start at a low pressure and listen for leaks, slowly up the pressure until you can hear the leak(s). I wouldn't go much above 20psi total. You will hear funny noises, such as the oil bubbling.

Well, I think I may have found it. Well, at least, confirmed what was in the pictures. I sprayed that part of the header with soapy water, and started it up.

Not only can I hear it leaking, I see bubbles form, and I can clearly smell exhaust. I would assume this could vent away at least 1-3 PSI (or more).

The thing that bothers me is I used new gaskets from subaru. Although, they were NOT the same as the old ones, they had all the dots on them. I also correctly torqued all the bolts to spec.

Hopefully, its not a warped flange.

Does anyone know how to get exact replacement metal style gaskets from subaru?

The uppipe isn't leaking, and I re-used those gaskets. I just cleaned them up with steel wool. Is this probably not a good idea for the header gaskets?

so does this thing really work? How exactly do you hook it up?
