| Professional STI Racer | I did some testing last night. The ECU will not advance the cams off throttle. I set the first 4 rows to 20 and monitored the AVCS on the dashboard. No advance until you have at least 1% throttle input. I wanted the car to idle like it had a big cam in it, ohh well. TMS This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (12) | So bringing this topic back to life after searching for about an hour trying to figure out the AVCS system, has anyone seen any noticable benefits from tweaking there AVCS timing? As I have been searching some people swear on it and some say it will barely do anything. If I am understanding this correctly, advancing the camshaft timing say right before 3200 rpms (or spool) will yield for better spool response since you are basically treating it like a NA motor? It is pretty surprising to me that there is not much out there on the system since it seems to have a pretty robust effect on overall performance as you can see many other companies i.e. the EVO that just added MIVEC. Anyone care to expand on some experiences they have had tweaking the AVCS table? |

| Senior STI Driver | I think we have to keep in mind that AVCS is NOT MIVEC or VTEC. AVCS varies the cam but I believe the cam only has one profile. MIVEC like VTEC has a normal cam profile and a power cam profile. According to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCS AVCS modifies both the intake and exhaust cams. Anyone know if this is definitely accurate? Last edited by ZuMBLe; 07-05-2006 at 01:28 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (12) | Ahh great article, I think I am starting to understand a little bit. http://www.drivesubaru.com/Win05_WhatsInside.htm But still really have no clue what I am doing yet, lol, im not touching it until i fully understand its capabilities and functions BTW according to the article it only effects the intake valves. |

| The Next Petter Solberg | The 2004 and 2005 STi's only have control of the intake valves. Subaru does have a version for 2006 that does both. Not sure which models of car it is in, but a search would probably reveal all. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
