| Amateur STI Driver | Guys, I moved from So Cal to New Jersey about 3 months ago, I my modded FXT was tuned by Tim Bailey while I still lived in LA. Now with the winter weather already in NJ, I have noticed that I may be running richer than before. I can smell a strong fuel odor around the rear of the car after I park and step around to leave the lot. There seems to be more soot build up than before around the tailpipe exit. My MPG has also suffered by up to 20-25%, I used to get 20mpg for combined driving, now it is probably around 15-16mpg. With the temperature difference between LA and NJ, would I need to recalibrate my previous maps to suit the winter weather? Winter in LA rarely see consistent ambient temp of 50F or less. It has consistently been around or below 50F in NJ in the past 3 weeks and last night was below 32F. My other question is, would this be a difficult calibration? i.e. needing to go back on a dyno or can this be done with my StreetTuner and data logging? I don't have a wideband AF gauge. thanks Peter This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

First, verify that your Fuel trims are out of the range of -5% to +5%. (I'm sure they will be) I highly recommend getting the MAF tuned on any STi for the average temperature of your area. Big Maf or stock. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | These are my mods and I am protuned... 05 STi 305whp - 336ft/lbs GPMoto 4-2-1 header, Helix Catted DP, MadDad Cat-back, Walboro Fuel Pump, Samco Turbo Inlet, Prodrive Boost Solenoid, Crawford Air/Oil Seperator, DeatschWerks 740cc Injectors, K&N Typhoon Intake, Perrin Crank Pulley, V1 Accessport Pro-Tune, Group-N top hats, Whiteline Swaybars, Kartboy Shifter Bushings, Braided Clutch Line, Fender Braces, CF front & rear stut mounts, S203 front lip, RUGEDIZED OIL PICKUP. Wide open A/F tends to stay rich, but when it's really cold it builds boost hella fast and higher than I've seen before. If I hammer through the gears it's fine, but if I am cruising in 5th or 6th and hit it ~2,500-3,000 rpm it will cut and buck at ~4,300-4,500. I think that's the sweet spot for the VF39. |

Get a few logs and see if your tuner in CA will make the necessary adjustments to your map and you'll be able to flash it and repeat the process (log, email results, get adjusted map, flash, etc.) until everything is ok with the car. I am having to do the same currently for a few issues with my car. You'll probably make more power being in the cold and you could always find the closest dyno if you want to know how much more. Good luck. |

| Junior STI Driver | It is -30 deg Celcius here today or -22 F and it is going to get colder yet this winter. Should I change my driving style for these temperatures in a Stock 08 STi? Never have with a non-turbo. Just thought I would check if someone knows something about this before the turbo or ECU freaks out at WOT. Yes I always warm up first.
