IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | I've been searching here/nabisco/cobb, but haven't found any answers yet... I'm building a 2.5SB/2.0Heads hybrid motor sans AVCS. Everything I've found, the people are upgrading to STi blocks, and have WRX ECUs. I will probably be going to a standalone, unless I can find a way to run larger injectors (1600cc), but I'd like to break in the motor on ST/UTEC, and get the emissions inspection done for this year. Will the ECU freak out without the AVCS sensors? What would you have to do to make this work? Turn off the CELs? Resistor? Zero the AVCS maps? Surely, someone has done this before? Most of the time your supposed to use the ecu that runs the head, not the block. So I would think if you used an ecu that was originally without the avcs, and tuned that. Call your tuner and ask him what ecu and tuning software you should use to pass emissions first. |

Everyone I've seen who's done a hybrid setup on an STi (AVCS->non-AVCS) has gone to a standalone ECU. I plan to do the same, I just wanted one last smog check before going to the <5000mi/yr emissions exempt for $$$ registration in TX. Also, I have ST for the STi ECU, not WRX. It's not worth buying yet another ECU that will only get used once. You're right though, I will be calling my tuner. I was just curious about public opinion.
