Default Built engine question

I'm in the process of buying an 04 sti that has wiseco pistons, balanced crank, supertec springs. It was a build that never got finished. My question is, how much power can this engine hold? my plan is to go GT35r with all the supporting mods for drag racing (low 11's, possibe 10's). can I leave the engine alone, or will I have to go back in and look at the rods etc. Thanks.

that's tough.

Our rods are strong. very strong. But a 35r, IMO, is just starting to get on the boundry of rod "safety" IMO, exspecially if you're running C16. Pump gas....you're fine.

If you drag race....and do it several times a year, *I* would put rods in it. It's more of a "piece of mind".

FWIW, I spin my stock engine to 7550 (limiter)....but I KNOW I'm on borrowed time.

I'd be spending most of my time on pump, with 6-8 trips to the strip per season. any idea on boost I will be able to run pump vs. c16 with the 35r?

anythoughts on going with a 30r or Fpred for reliable power?

this is purely and opinion, but I would rather have a slightly detuned 35r, than a edge tuned 30r.

typically, pump gas psi will be in the 20-22psi range....and race gas will be 28-30psi range. This all depends on the tuner, and the endless amount of variables each tuner likes to adjust.

IMO, stick with the true garrett. If you want to run 10's....or even low 11's...due the 35r. it's easier to do it with the larger turbo. You can get ALOT of reliable power with any turbo....it's all up to your competent tuner.

the 30r is A FUN!!!! TURBO. the 35r can be a whole 'nother league.
p.s. do the 35r
