Anyway, I would bet that larger valves/ports and supporting mods would be needed on top of the other improvements listed. Engines are air pumps and you will find out what the limiting items are.

Most dyno graphs I have seen seem to taper power in the 6k range. If you had a motor that was still making an upward power curve at 7k, then I could see the desire to raise the rev limit. Otherwise, I dont see the point.

Of course the bottom end needs to be up to the task but it is mostly the cam design(er) that will dictate the ideal rpm range. Do you have a cam in mind for 8500 rpm?
