He shouldn't have to get ugly here. Crap happens and the ocassional "comeback" is, unfortunately, just a fact of life. They're out some labor time and a few hundred bucks in parts, maybe less - it'll be a weak month, not a business breaker. If they're stand-up guys, they'll work it right into the schedule.

Well, IF it is engine damage, IF it is their fault, and IF they don't take care of him, I'm confident we'll all read about it right here. There's nothing like a few hundred sets of eyes looking over your shoulder to help motivate someone to do the right thing. They post here too, so this thread is on their radar screen, trust me. Regardless, let's not beat on anyone - we don't even know what's wrong yet.

BlueStinger: I'm curious, do you have an aftermarket clutch in that car, and do you really notice that stange "rattle" on soft decel and at idle?

I sure hope it goes that way.

Thanks for all the tips Flycaster. I do have an aftermarket clutch (ACT 6 PUCK), and that strange rattle/grinding sound is not related to the clutch at all. It's hard to describe, but I've installed enough aftermarket clutches to know the rattle you speak of. I'm almost certain that the noise is associated with the motor.

The total labor bill is going to be the big number, by far, if you have to jerk and rebuild the engine. I don't know why, but many guys seem to brush aside labor costs in these and other projects; it can make for some very, very unpleasant final bill surprises.

I know you say you "followed" a guy who left, but I have to ask, how much is that "loyalty" going to cost you? Or is he willing to do it for free since you're such a nice guy? Sorry, but I had to ask...
Ok, I'm going to clarify things a bit since I feel like I'm leaving a few details out of the mix. Mike W. was once the tuner for Gruppe-s and due to some circumstances ventured on to start a business of his own. All previous work done to my car was done through Mike and his mechanics. So this is the reason why I followed him. I purchase the motor through Gruppe-s and I don't know if they have mechanics right now who can work on my car. I really don't want anyone working on my car who has very little to rudimentary knowledge about putting a block together.

As far as loyalty and labor goes, that's hard to say. I didn't break my car, so I expect not to pay a dime. I don't want to be portrayed as the nice guy, but I have offered my help and services to many people ranging from street tuning to back breaking wrenching. The car is currently @ my care, and all labors are being done through me as of now. I felt that my car was going nowhere, so I decided to take it into my own hands to diagnose it myself. Action speaks louder that words and for every day/months I spent thinking about my car, I could've had something done! As for the oil analysis, I think that will be on the list, but honestly I don't think it's really necessary. I can have the motor out in an hour and apart in no time, and I'm certain that it's the ......... Right now, it just comes down to who's covering what.

Thanks,

Ron

Yeah ever since the engine build, nothing felt right about the car. I think you and many others can vouch for me on this one.

Thanks,

Ron

I'm a nice guy, but I'll tell you what, I'm not the type to be tampered with. But seriously, my intent is not to flame on anyone here on this board, I just need to get things moving in a timely and civilize matter so I can drive my car again.

Thanks for all the advice and comments guys, I think my best bet is to get in contact with the owners of Gruppe-s. I now have a reason to get in contact with them, and I don't want them to feel like this thread is a personal attack against them. I will keep everyone updated.

Jesus, Ron, if you can have a motor out and apart in an hour you are flat good. It takes 2 of us 5-6 hours to do that, minimum, and we know one end of a wrench from the other.

You know they've been reading this, so the call won't come as any big surprise. I'm sure you'll post the outcome, but I wish you good luck nonetheless.

Well it took me less than an hour to get the motor out yesterday, taking things apart is another story. I wish I was that good!

Thanks,

Ron

Thanks for the concern Jason! Hopefully everything works out properly as well. How's the new car by the way? Take it easy.

Regards,

Ron
