There are plenty of fully capable assemblers and machinists out there working on subie motors, some of them with decades of engine building experience. The guy who built my first STi motor has over 50 years of racing machine shop experience, with just about every make and model that you have likely ever heard of. That motor friggin' screamed and I, not he, was responsible for its demise.

The real problem is not ability. It's practical experience in pushing a particular make and model. Think about it. They've been buildling and improving mouse and rat race motors for almost 50 years - with 2.0L+ subies, it's less than 10 in this country. How many Chevy motors do you think they grenaded in the first 10 years? Answer: a bunch.

Jeeze, even Cosworth knows it will take time and constant fiddling to get it right and they've suffered their share of grenaded blocks...and I think they qualify as your "somebody with the knowledge, follow through, and experience." It simply takes time, and we're not quite there yet. As an example, and this just a gut hunch, I think we'll all look back 10 years from now and wonder why in the hell everyone looking to make big power didn't sleeve the motor...me included.

Default Results not Rumors.

Well then God speed it is, we’ll be at the Redline time attack at the end of the month!

Bruce, you’re one of the reasons we’ve spent the last year proving our products at the race track, so thank yourself as well.

I'm not saying this is "bad", much less underhanded, it's just something to be aware of. Whenver anyone appears to undercut the market, you simply need to find out why, and then determine if that matters to you.
Absolutely true!

But in our experience not boring and honing and going with a 0.5mm piston can lead to disastrous results when coupled with the tolerances of forged pistons. This is because the Subaru blocks have very loose tolerances coming from the factory. You throw in a 99.5mm piston a lot of times you end up having piston rock / excessive oil consumption. This is why the high revving STI 2.0 blocks are hand-built in Japan. As with a used case, we feel that the pre-heat cycled cases have advantages as opposed to going with a brand new block.

The added benefit is a lower overall cost as opposed to buying a brand new short block from Subaru and junking half the parts in it.

We do offer a $500 discount if you send us your shortlbock (provided it is rebuildable).

The Helix rods are high quality performance rods. Several JDM companies got together and ordered these rods from an OEM rod manufacture thus achieving substantial price breaks. The rods are very high quality, with tighter tolerances than most aftermarket rods made here in the states - not to mention Helix employs the top-of-the-line ARP L19 rod bolts. The cost savings are made through volume not a reduction in quality.

Cheers,

Gary
