Default CAMs Q? please help.

i called XX tuning for an order of cams set. JOHN tolled me i need to tell him if i have AVCS or not. he said in the us 2.5L has them and the 2.0L dos not.

my Q:

how do i know if my car has them or not ? is it some thin from the inside of the engine or outside the engine ?

hope you can help me ?

what cam is good for street and Little strip

If you have an STi or a 06+ WRX then YES you have AVCS. If you have a 2.0L WRX then NO you DONT.

all usdm STi's have AVCS...

Why do you want cams? there are better performance upgrades unless you are already running a big turbo built block with EM...

they are for a Friend, we pulled his engine and we need the best for street and strip


it is a 2005 STI 2.0L 6SPEED

If you have a 6 speed equipped STi drivetrain it has AVCS. If you have AVCS it is easy to identify by the 3 way oil line on the head going to the turbo and up to the front for the AVCS. You can run a non AVCS cam in an AVCS car but you will lose the AVCS capability. Remember that AVCS will not increase top end power at all. It is fully retarded once you are over 5000 RPM anyway but it will help with spool up and response a bit.

I dont think the 2.0l got AVCS, but ill let the experts chime in...

talk to: cosworth, ar fabrication, brian crower etc.. these are companies that make cams or build motors (or both) and they should be able to direct you..
