yea, first off, not Crawford.

second, how much do you want to spend/how much power do you want to make. I've heard good things about Cobb, Axis, Cosworth, gruppe-s, etc.

I plan on just throwing a new set of pistons and rings in and calling it a day. the rest of the block is pretty stout, the weekest link is the pistons. I will see how that holds up and do more if needed.

I think the Cobb "Stage 2" Tuner Series looks very nice. And the fact that you dont need to swap blocks, you can sell the stocker, make some dough, and lessen your costs.

OR

I would just throw some new pistons, cranks, etc, in your block now and call it a day. But for the costs of installation, you might be looking at the cost of a new block. I dunno, depends on whose doing the work.

i agree, but only if you have a local - RELIABLE machine shop.. if you do and you can spare some down time then just use your stock block and do new pistons, rings, bearings, gasket, maybe arp head studs and have everything balanced/blue printed and you should be good to go..

When building a block, I think you should know what rpm and power level you want to run, rpm being very important.

Generally, if you're sticking to a stock redline, and just want to eliminate weak points, then a block with forged pistons and a refresh would probably be fine.

But, if you're looking toward RPM, as in above stock, and you want the power to build as the rpms go up, you'll need more than pistons, as then you need a valvetrain that can handle, as well as the flow necessary for that rpm.

You'll most likely want to upgrade rods with a higher redline.

When you start to go for an above stock redline, and you start to go for peak power, it gets expensive fast.

Have fun selecting a block! I'd figure out what your budget is, that'll help taper your selection process. Most blocks are going to come with forged pistons, I'd also look into some upgraded bearings. Seems that the stocker ususally dies from a blown piston or spun bearing.

I decided to get the Cobb Stg 2 Tuner block. I also got a few upgrades, coated pistons and the prof series bearings. I'm also getting their Stg1 head service, which consists of mild porting, cleaning and inspection of everything. Going with 1000cc UR injectors and rails, Gruppe-S coated headers, and a few other goodies. My car is at TopSpeed right now waiting for the blcok to arrive next week. I'll pick it up 5/20 when I go up for Dougs wedding. Then I'm going to go for 10's by the end of summer!
