Default Cosworth 2.5L STi camshafts...

Anyone here had any experience with these or have heard anything about them?
Found them here and thought they seemed interesting. Haven't really heard of any cams for the STi's EJ25

sorry. i meant avcs.

avcs = active valve control system.

the stock sti cams are hydraulically actuated to change the cams' position above a certain rpm, i believe 4,000 rpm. this lets the car breathe better higher in the rpm band without sacrificing low and mid range power. you give that up by not going to an avcs cam. it also requires some other modifications in order to make a non avcs cam compatible with our motor.

avcs is subaru's form of vtec (or close to it). the sti cams come stock with it, so i would think if you got new cams you would want to keep it.

i answered that question a few posts up; crower and dpr. a search on nasioc will give you a number of threads on the subject.

you'll find dpr cams here. usdm sti avcs cams are mid page.

avcs is nothing like vtec.

the old versions of vtec only had variable lift duration cams.

subaru's avcs is more simmilar to I-vtec system, just without variable lift. and identical to toyotas vvt (variable valve timing) found on most of the newer model toyotas.

how do i know its the same as toyotas vvt? they use the exact same denso parts, the vvt actuator on the end of the cam sprokets are the same design, and the oil control valve for avcs is the same unit in the toyota. hell we even use the same maf.....

The Cosworth stage 1 cams have avcs and are available for the USDM STi. The reason I know is because I will be running the cosworth stage 1 cams in my STi. I ordered these about 1 week ago, and they will be arriving sometime next week (pictures will be in my journal on this forum). The stage 1 cams are perfect for the street and will make more power throughout the power band, as well as help with spool up time. These do not cause a lumpy idle, and the car will drive like stock...except with more power. If you give me a couple of weeks, to install them (and break in the motor) and have the car tuned, I will give you my impressions of them on my car.

If your looking for a good place to purchase the cams, or need to know more information about them go to:
