You threw that "reliable" word out there, so first things first...

How long do you want/expect the new engine to last?
Are open to having the engine rebuilt in roughly 50k miles?

You shouldn't pay a dime until you know what you want, and nobody should be giving you a parts list without knowing that either.

While I agree and liked I don't think $20k incl labor will actually get anyone into the biggest problem areas! The issue could be squeezing 4032 Pistons into the budget. Then depending on ones driving, even 2618s can last well over 50k.

But I agree there a bunch to be determined and at 20k it's determining the parts you substitute or leave out!

As a general rule, if you cannot financially handle your engine blowing up at 50k, then you probably shouldn't be messing with forged pistons and you should focus on a rock solid stock block build. Also, whatever he ends up doing, the tuner should probably have the final say when it comes to parts. Just my $.02, but I'd like to help prevent someone from heartache later on. That said, if a 50k lifespan isn't a problem for him, then I'd be excited to see how the build goes!

Curious as to exactly what got you up there - and finally someone publicly took the 1.5 record from me! Anyway I bet you are happy with it. More on that at the end

I agree.

If I could keep my car running the way it did the summer after it was built for 60Kmi I will have certainly gotten my moneys worth. IE it is worth far more $/mi than anything i have ever owned. Before I owned it, I woulds not have made the choice to build it if someone said it would die by 60K. Now having driven it I might just say do it. I understand the risk and i do't care.

Wow that hurts! The cosy block is nice though, im sure its very nice and quiet on start ups. Personally, if i spend that kind of money i would like the engine to be a quiet as possible. Just a little more piece of mind for myself.

IMHO - 75% of budget for motor rebuild & supporting driveline upgrades, the other 25% for brakes & suspension. A 600hp STI wshould be far more enjoyable if it can stop and turn.
I may have missed if you already have other mods to support the increased power.
End result should be fun in any case.
