IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | So piston #2 went out and I worked a deal with my dealership and they are going to allow me to put in FORGED pistons, due to the fact that it will give me peace of mind on this issue. Of couse I have to pay for the extra labor for the teardown of the other side of the motor, but i figure why not just put the forged ones in while we are in there. So what would you all suggest for a set of forged pistons and who sells them here on IWSTI? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

| Authorized Vendor | I hate stating dyno numbers, but roughly 450-500 whp maybe more maybe less. The cast pistons will give out before the rods. One of the main reasons people replace the rods though is because aftermarket rods are generally lighter as well as being stronger(different quality of aluminum/formula/etc..). This in conjunction with higher rate valve springs and now you can rev to 8k very easily. |

![]() I figured there'd be more work needed than just valve springs and a piston and rod swap to hit 7.5 or even 8k. Good to know. Thanks! | |

| Authorized Vendor | Honestly its more the valve springs than anything else. Above 7.5k you start to get valve float on the stock valve springs, you could also potentially break the stock valve springs at this level. Nothing has really physically changed with these motors from the 04-07 motors to keep them from revving to 7k and people routinely revved those to 7.5k in stock form. 8k with valve springs is very do-able. But to have it rev well to 8k I would put pistons, rods, valve springs(obviously), light weight flywheel, and a crank damper like the one from ARFab. Cams would also help at high rpm's as well as a monster turbo. So as you see its a little more complicated, but the parts are there to do it easily. |

| Junior STI Driver | Sorry to hear about the blown piston. That really sucks. Honestly, If I was in your exact situation I would try and buckup the cash for a stroker kit. No kidding. Increased displacement and forged parts FTW. Its not much more labour cost to change the entire bottom end. Its all going to be apart anyway. I bet you are more then half way there.
