Default About to go built, looking for builders...suggestions?

Alright, well first off, realize I'm a single 22 year old guy in the Army living in Germany making BANK becuase of what I do, and the fact that i'm stationed in Europe. I've gotten to a point with my WRX that the VF30 isn't cutting it anymore. I've already got a huge amount of suspension work, including a stoptech BBK, and the car is pretty much where i want it visually (minus Ultralegerra 3's in dust black). I'm at pretty high mileage for an 02..89000 miles...So it's time for me to either go built, or buy an STI then start with the suspension all over again..and it will actually be a bit cheaper for me to just buy a built motor and tranny then fly back and buy an STI ect. ect.

So here it is, i'm looking for a reliable motor builder. I want a built 2.5 that will max out a 35R. Keep in mind the car is my DD (about 2 miles to work), and the ocasional Autobahn run / nurbergring / hochenheimring outting. I found a german company who will do the motor and trans swap for me for a relateively cheap price. However, due to the exchange rate right now, it's going to be easier for me to buy a motor from the states and have it shipped.

I want to find a vendor who is able to build something reliable with fully forged internals with P&P heads and upgraded valvetrain. Who's had good expirences getting a motor built and what company did you use? Or any vendors out there?

Thanks,
Adam

I would suggest either Howard at AR Fab(I am sure he will chime in here) or Ron at Raw1performance(used to be Axis). They both build a sick motor for a very reasonable price. For a stage 2 motor you are looking at something around 4500 bucks from either builder. I leave motor building to the guys who build several hundred to 1000+ motors a year. Both guys can do heads as well.

If you need any other stuff(turbo kit, clutch, fueling, etc...) let me know.

Alright, cool, you'll definately be hearing from me about a 35r, black fmic, and injectors at the very least.

He'll be looking at quite a bit more for ported heads and all, though. Much closer to $10k.

Ported heads isn't a requirement for my build, it was just a wish actually...something that would be nice to have. Anywah, thanks for the info so far guys.

Ok, I guess I should have clarified, for a stage 2 short block. Heads with cams and all that will run another 2-4 thousand.

If you buy heads already ported you are gonna spend alot of money, if you were in the states and could send your heads out to get ported it would be reasonable. You have a WRX though, do you want to switch to AVCS heads?

I suggest us The TopSpeed Road Race 1 (TSRR1) is the bomb-diggity-yo. Between season tear-downs show minimal wear running from 500whp to 600whp all season long...

Most people end up with slightly different packages. Give Tray a call at 678-297-7770 and he can get you all the specifics.

Ron @ RAW Performance (Axis) gets my vote. He just rebuilt my locally built 2.5L after it had some problems last winter. I was skeptical but it was very easy to deal with him via phone/email.

Maxing out the GT35R and taking the sustained heat that you'll see on Autobahn runs is going to take more than a basic piston/rod setup. I suggest sleeves, piston coating, and Ferrea valves (Super Alloy on exhaust) to take the sustained heat/pressure.

You'll also have to carefully manage your coolant and oil temps on high speed runs.
