Default My build

After the teardown, I found #1 had a cracked ringland, no signs of terrible DET on the bearings, but I did lean missfire (tehcnically pre-ignition due to running out of injector and going lean) it at 3k or so 3-4 times reproducing an issue. Anyway after 11.5K miles worth of experimenting and hard tuning, here are the results. #1 ringland went. From my logs, there was some odd fueling stuff going on when it went, so I am upgrading to DW 750's and will have my old injectors tested (especially #1).

So I already have the info I need on nasioc, and will be posting pics of my build up here. I saved the bores so its gonna be a hone and a call to CP pistons after mic-ing out the bores. Here are some pics:

The broken one (casting defect)?:

The bores are still good!

Hopefully the CP pistons will hold up to the 20G and meth for a good while.

The build will start soon.

Ouch, but at least your looking at the bright side of things. Doing anything else besides pistons?

I quit lurking around that other forum because of its requirement to have a low IQ, your better off here

Yeah it was a piece of paper towel. I guess I was so paranoid about checking my oil, I got some in there one time. It was not enough to block any oil from getting top the heads though.

Ok Got her torn down!

These bearings are all AOK! Time to just clean her up, replace the gaskets, put the two rods back on, and sew her back up with some CP pistons.

Except for the 2 or 3 pistons that are cracked everything looks practically brand new.

Only #3 had the bad crack. The others are just hairline cracks and they are on the driver side which gets less fuel. #3 cracked the ringland on the passenger side, mainly due to the casting defect, but #1 is pristine. I will get a flow report when I send my stock injectors in (already ordered upgraded injectors).

I am sure they will be off by a good margin, but some of the abuse was my own doing. I ragged the snot out of the car, made one map for like 2 weeks that would only pull .35 degrees (Stock is 1.4, 06 STI is 2.0) per knock event.

I thought about it (did much research and my own inspection), but unless I am going to ductile iron sleeve it, I am just not gonna spend the $$$. With just pistons, the block will be fine. I am only going TD05H 20G 8CM^2 + Meth. Plus I am just gonna take it easy on her now. Gonna set the Meth up with a switch that turns boost on + Meth, Otherwise, I will just drive around on WG boost.

However, I do see myself having that button on most of the time.
