it'd be nice...but not necessary....but a new set of forged pistons would be the first thing id do... it all depends on how much money you want to spend....

Tired of getting your posts locked on NASIOC? Reception might be a bit warmer here....

I know some engine builders that would disagree with you.

Forged pistons and rods, sleeved, big port heads, bigger valves, upgraded cams. If you're going with a 40R, either do it right or step it down a few levels if you're not willing to get rev happy. Otherwise, you'll have a nice 1k RPM of usable power

Yea some people are assholes on nasioc they dont like different questions. Anyway for a 9500 rpm redline would it be nessary for a sleved block or would a built motor minus the sleeving be alright? Also as far as oil passages go would I need any machining done to the block?

I would say you would definately want to sleeve the block if you plan on pushing the turbo into its "happy area" which would be around 30+ psi. As far as specifics are concerned with machining, I have no idea, but I'm sure you could ask the shop that you plan on having build the motor.

your best bet is to talk to a builder like AR Fab. I'm sure they'd be more than willing to answer all of your questions as long as you're serious about a 40r upgrade.

^What I've heard is the sleeves are good up to 550whp. Anything beyond that and they become a weak link.

OP, the best bet is to talk to various engine builders and not take the word of internet motor experts.... Call Ron @ Axis, Howard @ AR Fab, Quirt @ Crawford just to name a few. They do this for a living, so why not ask the experts? Especially when you're getting into big power territory.

BTW, guaranteed you're looking at $25k+ to do all this.

I would highly recommend sleeves for a 40R, since that turbo doesn't shine until higher boost and rpms. Talk to Ron @ Axis for all your needs, he's a stand up guy that won't do you wrong.

I don't mind talking to vendors at all, but I just get the feeling most of the time their just trying to sell you things you don't really need. And that being said from experience. But hey, I'm still willing to give a shot to vendors recommended from you guys. Since I have no doubt in my mind, that they are very capable in the knowledge nessary for the sort of project I have in mind. Oh and guys keep the suggestions coming the more I learn the safer and less expensive this project will be. Thanks.

Wrong.
The more you learn, the more you'll realize how much more expensive this project is going to be to do it right. Safer? For sure.

9500k redline? Ouch. Sportbike territory.+1 on the 25g cost estimate, maybe a little less. Mine hit around 18g give-take, Darton sleeves but stock head rebuild. Gt35r, ARFab.

9500 rpm? That's a lot man!!!!!!!!

The highest claimed RPM I know of is the Brian Crower stroker kit, the guy from BC told me the max rev is 9800 rpm. Now I don't know if that is safe to do or not. I guess fpr safety reason you should sleeve your block.
I inquired at Darton, the guy told me Darton sleeves are good for 1000hp. I just don't know how accurate is that. Maybe a lot depends on the quality of parts you put in, if it's balanced and blueprinted etc and how it's installed.

If you have the money, go for it man, keep us posted, A dyno sheet of your car would be great too and a video would be better.

Goodluck with your build

+1 to this

to the op .. if u are serious about all this (which i highly doubt) u should list what ur goals are for the car and what ur budget is. Money is the key to everything. if u wanna drop more the car is worth into the engine u can have ur 9500 rpm gt40r street car.
