It was on a dynojet. The power is there though as the car has gone 10.83 @ 131 and trapped a best of 134mph.

This is exactly why subies have no top-end power, I think a good p&p head and/or after market head + cams would be a good way to broaden the power curve. Yes, subies make good power, but usually it's narrow, PEAK power... It really sucks though that we have to spend so much money to gain some top-end power...

There is a happy medium with porting, though. We gain top end at the expense of low end.

If 400 is the goal, forged pistons and toss in cams, springs and valves (if you have the money) to open up the top end flow.
Port work is only needed when you really want to start pushing it or really want to improve top end power as much as possible.

this is coming from someone who ports heads and builds enignes.

Save the money on the portwork, as you don't need it to reach your goal.

What do you think the total parts & labor cost would be for forged pistons, cams, springs and valves?

If you were having this professionaly built you could expect to pay around $6k when all said and done. Now if you had the tools and the knowledge or could some how avoid the assembly costs. You could expect to pay $3k. I had a short block built. I provided the block, pistons, rods, rings, and gaskets to them. It still costed about 1500 dollars for them to assemble, install the parts, balance (all the way down to the clutch).

For 400whp I wouldnt even worry about springs and valves. But if you think you will want more power somewhere down the road go ahead and do it now. It will save you the time and money from having to pull the motor a 2nd time.
