Default darton + brian crower stroker kit

Anyone using darton sleeves with brian crower stroker kit?
With cosworth heads and BC cams.

I have a friend who is planning to build that engine.
I planned that too, but haven't have the money now and I have read a lot about Darton sleeves are not for DD. Is that true? Any particular reason why not for DD?

Personally I don't have experiance with Darton and crower, I asked crower about their stroker kit's max rev, they replied it's 9800rpm, I just don't know if that is possible since I never tried. Anyone here have that combo products?

Any comments with reliability and power output?

Thanks

I Recently took delivery on an engine very similar to the set up you describe, however I do not have it running yet.
I did however do quite a bit of research into the very questions you have asked, and will share what I have learned.
I currently have a Darton Sleeved EJ257 running a BC rotating kit with Kelford AVCS cams, and ported heads. Ron at AXXIS/RAW built my motor. I drilled Ron and Brian Crower for answers and here is what I came up with.
1. As for sleeved motors in DD cars. According to Ron, no problem, drive it.
2. When I spoke to BC about rev limit I was told high 8000's, however you will probably stop making power before that point anyway unless you have a ridiculous cam/valvetrain combo. In the interest of driveability I kept mine within reason, and should be able to make good power to high7000's. Also Ron prepped the crank for high RPM use by reconfiguring the oil delivery to the rod bearings.
2. As far as reliability and power output goes...
a. if you don't touch the heads/valvetrain your horsepower will not change much however you will see torque gains. With a good top end a 2.7l stroker engine will provide more than anything low/mid power improvements. Your top end/turbo choice will be what determines your topend power in the end. Although you can eke out a few more horsepower on lower octane fuels, because you don't need to run as much boost for a given HP level.
b. It is almost universally accepted that going long stroke on a subie motor shortens the life of the pistons. Not only do you shorten the skirts, but you also change the rod angle unfavorably. If you are looking for long term reliabilty stay with a 2.5L displacement and don't ever race it:-)

Thanks for the info man.

My friend is planning that build, and he want a UR turbo kit.
I had a different choice, I went Crawford and SL3 crawford internals.

Sleeves are fine for a daily driver, honestly it comes down to who machines the block and installs them.

Sleeving an engine seems to be the riskiest engine modification (most machinists cannot install sleeves and not have an issue).
There seems to only be a few builders in the country who offer sleeved Subaru engines witout problems.

We have a number of customer daily driving our sleeved engines.
