IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (4) | I would guess, looking at the title of it, this is still NOT for STi Check out the outer diameter; if it's 11.545", it's WRX.ImportRP, I think, is selling Brembos. Since blanks are exclusive to dealers, they sell the slotted (and sell drilled ones, too, but who cares the drilled ones) for $173 as far as I know. Quote:

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (4) | I ended up buying the Powerslots for $220 shipped. DBAs were also pretty compelling at $290 (since gap is much closer now), but I don't think it will make much of a difference, if any at all at the level of my driving. I believe, ideally, we should not pay more than $80 for each rotor. Anything more than that, we are making someone rich. - Ozer |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (6) | I will say that after going with the DBA 5000 up front with the 4000 in the back going from the 4000 front & back there was a difference... The car felt better on acceleration and brake fade was impossible with the dtc70/60 combo. As for blanks. I say great idea I know lots of guys that use them and never complain about a thing (not on STi's but everything else on the track). For the price of a pair of 5000's you can almost get a BBK anyway. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (4) | Since Rotora blanks and Powerslot are $220/pair shipped each, it's still not cheap enough though ![]() Quote:

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (8) | I wish I was getting rich selling DBA's - I suppose DBA might be but I doubt that as well. Non-china manufacturing - materials - QC - etc...it costs money and that's what they do. They actually spend a good amount of money developing there material - refining it etc instead of just making it as cheap as possible. Going to the track - tkaing data - dyno testing. Somebody has to actually invent this stuff for the Chinese to copy you know. Production volume and rotor size are the other reasons they are more costly. Compared to most rotors they are twice as heavy and probably sell at barely a few percent of the volume a Honda or even WRX rotor sells at. Larger rotors also scrap at a much higher rate - and of course are heavier to ship and handle. It adds up. Check the price of Brembo 14" rings. Also - I dunno why - but there are lots of sites w/ incorrect listings for STi rotors- they just don't really care about something that is so small in comparison. If there were cheap STi blanks easy to get I'd be selling them. Best I found was Chinese ones for 04's that would retail for at least $200 if I cut my margin way down. They are super heavy and hard to ship - so I wouldn't bother. The EVO rotors are similar - and there are cheap chinese rotors for those already - but the supply is a bit sporadic. They can sell in the $70 per rotor range. Out of the box though there is a pretty big difference - and I see where they take shortcuts/save the money just in tooling/casting finish/machining finish (or lack of). This doesn't even approach the different materials, quality control etc. Chinese Honda rotors can be had for probably a buck a piece in volume - the dumping fee is more than the rotor - the box is more. As far as what you end up w/ as a user - well that depends. For track use - I'd suggest that a premium rotor will last longer for sure - but I'd be hesitant to place a number on that -= I've seen anywhere from 1.3-1.5 times to 3-4 times as long depending on the application. (the failure is cracking btw) On the street I don't have data - the test takes years. All in all - I drive the crap outta my car - and I used my brakes REALLY hard at the Dragon a few weeks back and will again at the track in July. I need the brakes/tires to be good and not the problem. So I'd think a premium rotor is a decent investment - just like good tires. I've seen some spectacular failures. IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (4) | Besides the STi crew, I do not know ANY community paying this much for a simple rotor change. Well, maybe exotics. I really started feeling that at least some part of the talk about expensive brakes severely resembles to Bush's 9/11 fear tactics :P Anyways, I think our community needs access to cheap replacement parts; we will find them sooner or later, be it from Napa, China or Australia. | Amateur STI Driver | I agree. I just autox occasionally but otherwise the car is a daily driver. I cannot see myself spending $3-500 on rotors alone! I wanted to buy Hawk HPS pads and just some decent non-OEM rotors but as this thread has mentioned, there doesn't appear to be. I do agree with many though that if the DBA 4000's are only marginally more, it sounds like a better choice...I would just rather spend something in the ~$100 range for rotors...I've never seen prices half as high as this on any other car I've owned. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2004 Trader Rating: (13) | STi rotor prices are seriously crazy! Check out how much a kit for the M3 costs (sloted rotors front AND rear!!, pads f/r, SS lines, and motul fluid). http://www.modbargains.com/product.a...-e46-brakes007 I can't figure out why the STi stuff is soo expensive. | Amateur STI Driver | So following Ozer's lead, I ordered powerslot rotors and Hawk HPS pads and total cost was $321.26 ($99.78 for HPS pads and $110.74 each for powerslot rotors). Since I autox, I'll let you guys know how they hold up between the daily driving and autox events. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | to put this in perpective - the DBA rotors I bought were 39 dollars more a rotor fwiw. and while 40 bucks is 40% more... it isn't that bad. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
