114 ft/lb!, most torque wrenches can't even handle that. A few years back I was talking to this one guy running an older Subaru at Willow Springs. I saw this grey haired dude get into the older model Subie and then hand everyone in a newer car their butt, so I figured I would see what info I could get out of him, you can always ask, right?

Anywho, he said he always runs torques the wheel bolts to 74 ft/lb and the 80 ft/lb is the absolute max. Most important thing was to ALWAYS use a torque wrench, so all the bolts are on at the same pressure. Makes sense when you think about it, the brake disk is held on by the bolts so if the pressure is not the same all the way around the wheel your brakes will not work properly.

Thanks for the heads up!

This thread is about the bolts that attach the brake calipers to the hub, not the wheel lug nuts.

So how are you guys getting a torque wrench in there? I can't even fit my breaker bar in to get the top one loose.

I didn't use a torque wrench or anything on mine. I just used a XL boxed wrench and pulled it really tight like every other car i've done brakes on in my life and all has been well for about 20,000 miles now. I know it sure didn't feel like 114ft/lbs when I loosened the bolts.

I can get it on there without the bolt but there isn't enough room in the wheel well for my torque wrench(which isn't the shortest in the world). I guess it would be better to have a shorter one.
