Exactly right. Caliper bolts that haven't been backed out in a long time can and will break unless you soak them in PB blaster and are very, very careful with them (work them out, spray, back in, back out a little more, etc.) Brake fluid and environmental corrosion can make these bolts a flat *****.

Word of advise: when you put the bolts back in, smear the threads with anti-seize and you won't have this problem the next time. In fact, the same goes for most bolts found on the car.

I understand your pain with TF. I just had to get my wheel replaced a while ago and when the tuner was putting my wheel back on from the dynapack he must have used the impact gun wrongly and he crossthreaded a lug nut. The stud broke and now i have to by a new one.

He must've put some big time doubt in your mind, otherwise you would've run him head first straight through the closest radiator. I would've.

PDXT had a similar disaster a little over a year ago: a new tech forgot to tighten the lugs down and it fubar'd not only the wheels but a big-brake system as well. They covered it, just like they should, and it was NOT a cheap fix. And, no, the tech doesn't work there anymore, either.

geez, sounds like you had some pretty frozen bolts..being that those are 14mm size thread bolts. they must taken a impact gun and just tried to hammer it off..but most likely a breaker bar. I see this everyday at work..frozen bolts, rusted bolts, everything. I take the time to soak them in with some pb blaster or twister. but..if i feel that its going to seize i talk to the customer if he wants me to continue warning him that if it does break he was notified about it and if it breaks its on him. You wont have much luck in a legal battle since they were issued a work order to r&r you brakes. The fact that they regonize it has a safetly issue will work in there favor. You best bet would be try to drill out the reming bolt in the caliper if you dont want to cough up the moneys for new calipers.

SO my legal action is nothing - that is terrible - I did not even know they where doing that - I could have held on a little longer and maybe got someone else to look at it

I have not paid yet - expect the call anytime - what do you recommend

^^Were the new calipers already on the car when you accepted delivery? If so, amigo, I think it's check writing time.

Make sure you get the old calipers - you can probably take them to a machine ship, get them fixed, and either sell them or swap them out with the new ones and sell those. You're going to end up loosing some money, but that will help. As for the difference, just chalk it up as another "tuition check."
