Default Samco 9pc. Ancillary Hose Set on the STi

I've seen the recomendation of driving fast and slowing down repeatedly. Since it isn't always safe to do this on the street and some of us have no race tracks handy, what do you think of this:

How about power braking at about 60 mph for 6-8 seconds, then wait a little bit, then repeat a few times. Or just do it one time for 30 seconds. You would probably have to be in 3rd gear to have enough power to maintain speed. I think the car has enough power to do it. Does anybody know if this will work?

So, a lot of people have looked at this, does anyone know any reason why this wouldn't work?

it could but imo it's harder on the clutch than trying to find a large parking lot and doing the standard method. you can get it done from speeds of 35-40 or less if you brake hard enough.

are you just bedding in standard pads, or trying to set up some ultra high performance pads?

It wouldn't be hard on the clutch at all... the clutch isn't slipping if it's fully enguaged.

IMO, this would be fine, it should have pretty much the same effect. But I find it hard to believe you can't find somewhere to get up to 60 just briefly, especially as fast as this car accelerates. Just go out late at night or sometime when there's no traffic.

hmmm. i was never taught that the only way to damage a clutch is by slipping it, but i may be wrong. i shall have to read up on it.

I guess I'd also add that break in for normal pads and break in for ultra high performance pads--again, in my experience--is a bit different, with the former not really requiring anything special in any event.

I just asked the question for future reference, and for others who want to do it safer. Not to mention I have a CDL, it would be just my luck to have a state trooper see me speed up and down repeatedly with my big wing and hood scoop. I'm sure he/she would have to see what i'm up to and make up a reason for a ticket.
