Anti-sieze or the equivelent on the pins and anywhere else the pads make caliper contact (not the rotor tho....) will help/solve the squeel.

The clunk is just the pads floating in the calipers and slightly shifting as they change load direction, nothing to worry about but is annoying. Diff pads may help this.

Liquid noise is poss the spare recess full of water.....?

The STi makes a whole bunch of clunking. you hear a lot of it cuz of the lack of sound deadening and because of the awd. someone else said it above. Its a race car, you really gotta learn to love it and accept the NVH that comes along with the performance. Its not Benz or BMW that will be all smooth and quiet. I was just as worried when i first got mine but a few friends with STi's made my worries go away when they explained to me the same thing that everyone else on the forum is telling you.

What are the benefits of floating pads in a caliper? Is it to compensate for the expansion of metal when the pads become hot?

It's simpler and lighter.

Most street cars have springy steel guides/plates that keep pressure on the pads at all times. That keeps them from clicking or squeeking.

Also, most good pads will make noise and dust, it's a fact of life.

Mine did not clunk on the stock pads, but does clunk with the replacement pads I just put on. Doesn't worry me, but it is annoying (after 3 years without any clunks).

Stock pads did not clunk. Went to Hawk hps (front&rear) and thought the brakes were going to clunk apart. Changed to Ferodo's clunking went down 90% but brake dust went dack to stock levels....win some loose some.

Same here...stock pads/rotors never clunked, but after changing to HPS pads I hear the clunk. When I replaced the fronts to HPS it didn't noticebly clunk but since I've done the rears, I've really started noticing it. I'm going with the crowd and saying this is normal due to the size difference between pads.

But there is one thing my brakes do that I don't care for: Squel. But they don't squel all the time. It goes like this. Drive around, everything is fine. Then one day I'll have to hit the brakes pretty hard. NOTHING like on a track or even canyon running, just trying to stop for a yellow light or a stop sign I didn't see till the last minute. And the car stops fine, no problem. No drama, just higher and faster than normal brakes being used.

Then they start to squel. Not all the time, but at very slow speeds. Both forward and reverse. The longer I drive the car, the better it gets, till about 200 miles later they are no longer squeling anymore.

'Till I have to hit the brakes again.... And so it repeats.

Anyone know what this is? any solution? (yes, I can just wait it out... but if there is a solution I'd like to try it out.)

Thank you!
Mine do the excat thing to. Sometimes they will squel going foward and in reverse. I dont no what to do about it but im with you here haha.
