I'll sponsor you for as many sets of worn out and overheated pads as you like! All you have to do is run a rainbow sticker across your windshield..... This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad.

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2004 Trader Rating: (14) | To be honest, RacingBrake rotors are fairly proned to cracking. I've seen them crack to the point of failure during HPDE before. You would be better off with Performance Friction or DBA rotors. That's not to say the Racingbrakes are garbage, but when you are fast and using aggressive pads, they don't tend to hold up too well. |

HAHAHA --------------------------- I am going to give the Racing Brake rotors one more shot. If they don't work I will have no choice but to get rid of them.

Ruski, I just ordered some XP12s direct from Carbotech and they were only $250 shipped. I previously used XP8s and used those up fairly quickly so I thought I would give these a try. The price advantage makes it worth it to try.

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2006 Trader Rating: (2) | Sorry for the delay in posting an update. New pads and rotor rings have been ordered. The pads I decided on were the PFC01s. I thought long and hard about it before I made the choice. Mostly it came down to me needed an aggressive rotor wear pad because either though thermal expansion or large amounts of pad deposits my rotors actually grew in thickness. New they were 30mm. After one track day at very low speeds on Hawk Blues they were 29.8mm. After another few track days at high speeds with a combination of the blues and pagid yellows the rotors were 30.14mm in width. I really want to make sure that pad buildup is not causing me a problem. Everything arrives tomorrow and Wednesday. I will get pics of the cooling setup then and post them up. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (8) | Something doesn't compute If you grew 0.2 mm + 0.14 = 0.34 mm total after you swapped out the Hawks. That = about 0.013". Transfer layer thickness should be in the sub 0.001" range - even down into the 'ten-thousandths" I assuemn you measured them cold etc....I'm curious about your data though. |

Trust me I know it is weird. Yes they were measured cold, back at my house a day or two after the track day. I used a digital micrometer and I made sure it was zeroed before I took the measurement. I tried rotating the rotor and measuring slightly different ways to make sure I wasn't being a total retard, but it didn't make a difference. The only thing that I could come up with is that the rotors had massive thermal expansion and never really settled back into their proper size and/or weird pad build-up.

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (8) | Hawk Blues run cold will erase about anything - they can be used to 'turn ' the rotors ever so slightly. Perhaps some careful cold use of the Blues to get down to metal -= then rebed the yellows? The logic merely being that the Yellows could not bed in well after the Hawk Blues transfer layer was laid down so it piled up on top of it. I don't know how to conjure that the rotors 'grew' - I can only think that if they did then there are micro voids throughout and that is not comforting. Is it all streaky/smeary looking and how did the yellows work? |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2006 Trader Rating: (2) | The yellows worked well, but there had no where near the initial bite of the Blues. With the yellows I had no doubts diving into turn 2 at Laguna Seca at the very top of 5th gear. Before I first bed in the yellows I ran the blues 100% cold for about 15 miles, putting on and off the brakes. I made sure it was a clean surface for the pads. After I take things apart later this week for the new pads and rotors I will post up pics here of how everything is in its current state. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2006 Trader Rating: (2) | Alright, Picture time. Old Pictures: These first pictures are from a while ago, just after a couple events, and only one of which I was able to pick up some speed. I showed these pictures to racing brake and they said it was normal. They also said I should try a less aggressive pad like HPS or HP+. (I can get the HPSs to start to fade/smoke after 2 hard stops on the street) Rotors, after second track day, (in November 2006 I believe) ![]() ![]() ![]() Current Pictures: After taking off the rotors I was able to inspect them fully and they do have multiple cracks that are cracking to the edge and going through. I tried to get a picture of that but I was unable to get the camera to focus properly on it. Racing-Brake 2-piece Rotors There is a little bit of rust on the rotors as they have been sitting outside for the past week. -Current Drivers side rotor ![]() -Current Passengers side rotor ![]() Both of the rear rotors show much move even and fine pad deposits compared to the front rotors. The rears are using Hawk Blues. -Current Drivers side rear rotor ![]() -Current Passengers side rear rotor ![]() As you can see the brake pads are totally crumbling. In some places there is as much as 4mm left, in others there is 2mm left. Again these are Pagid Yellows RS-19s after about 13 20min runs. -Drivers side brake pads front: left inner, right outer ![]() ![]() -Passeners side brake pads rear: left outer, right inner ![]() ![]() For those who wanted it here is the pictures of the brake duct cooling setup. The drivers side runs up and around the frame, about 4 inches from the exhaust manifold but I have had no problems with the heat tubing melting, even with the low temperature tubing. The passengers side runs along the bottom of the car then back up through the wheel well. The duct tape on the tubing is a precautionary measure to ward off a little of the rubbing. -Drivers Side cooling system: ![]() ![]() ![]() -Passengers side cooling system: ![]() ![]() |
