Default 2006 side 'vent' for brake cooling?

Has anyone come up with a way to use the fake 'vent' on the side of the 2006 to run a duct to cool the brakes? I'm not sure if enough air would get in through there but maybe someone has come up with a way.

You could create something similar to the brake ducts that they used on old 930 Porsche Turbo's. Like this picture on the corner of the bumper

Seattle STI is correct. I thought about that but was concerned that the air would bounce off the bumper and go around that point without being able to direct air into it (lower pressure area compared to the front of the bumper). Of course, you could make the scoop really big...

i used the fog lights (without the lights) and it seems to work well.

You can test whatever you make by routing the hose into the passenger compartment and seeing how much air/press gets to you.

Fog covers are a much better choice. The front of the car gets way more airflow than the side, and the fogs are a perfect size for brake duct hoses.

What's actually behind the stock fog covers and how do they come off?

Yea just take off the fog covers. Or get the RCE cooling kit - I have heard only good things about it.

Yep, the RCE kits are the best but I had to fab up my own because RCE has been out of stock for a long time. I suggest you wait till they have more and buy their kit.

There is plenty of room right behind the fog lights but routing the hose so that it doesnt touch the header and so it clears the tires at full lock is tricky. I had to squash/ovalize mine to get clearance.

I'm not done solving my brake heat problems so its still a work in progress for a while.

Go buy color matched regular WRX fog light covers with holes for fog lights and replace those covers with the blank covers that come on the STi. Purchase the RCE Kool brake ducts and connect them to the WRX overs with preexisting fog light holes. They will act as an intake for the brakes with excellent flow.

More brake ducts are coming in very soon.....stay tuned.

The USDM foglight housing is almost exactly 3 inch diameter.....our hose fits in there perfectly FYI.

Try calling them, I doubt anyone from RCE is checking this thread frequently.
