Default Brake pad deposits

I have brake pad deposits on all 4 rotors. Can I just burn it off at the next track day or should I use some sand paper to get rid of it?

Stock rotors and DS2500 pads FYI

Default Brake Pad Deposits

Ryan:

I suspect the answer is going to be....it depends.

You might be able to remove the material deposits by either normal street or track driving, meaning that it'll go away in the ordinary course of events. However, there's no guarantee of that.

Similarly, you could try removing the pad material with either sandpaper or emory cloth. But there's no guarantee that approach will work completely either.

My past experience is that switching pads between street and track and using the same rotors doesn't work particularly well.

The reason for this is that some of the pad material is actually transferred over to the rotor under braking. This light coating of pad material actually increases the effectiveness of the brakes.

When you change to a different pad compound on the same rotors, the pad material doesn't transfer over quite as well as it's being laid down over a different compound.

The ideal solution would be to have separate rotor/pads set ups for street and track.

Right now I have bonding agents from a set of pads that went down almost to the backing plates on my rotors. I haven't been able to completely get rid of the braking shimmy regardless of what I've tried.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I am actually using the DS2500's for track and street at the moment, and they are the only pads that have been used on these rotors so far. After the next track day (middle of March) I am probably gonna throw stock pads in since I wont be doing another track day until Sep. or Oct.

Seems like I might be better off just hoping that the pad deposits burn off at the next track day.
