Default Mushy brake pedal?

I took my car in for its 30k service today, which includes a brake fluid flush. Now that I got it back, the pedal takes a lot more travel before it starts to stop the car than it did before. Before it would be very touch sensitive and now i can lay on it before it'll stop. Is there anyway to fix this, or does it need to be taken back and redone? I've tried pumping the brakes a little, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference while coming to a stop.

Go back to them, or try putting on some SS lines, that should stop some of the play in the pedals.

I'd take it to another reputable shop in the area. Maybe ask one of your friends. Or ask one of them to give you a hand for a half hour and do it yourself.

If they can't get it right the 2nd time, I'll be filing a formal complaint and having it done with my friends and a 6 pack. The car really does not stop anymore unless I floor the pedal. That's simply unacceptable. Tomorrow's the big day, let's see if they take their time on it now.

aaaaaaaaaand....they're still mushy. i need to push the pedal down over halfway before i get braking response. i talked to the service manager and he said the pedal was within spec according to subaru. there's just no way. i've left a voicemail with my salesman asking if theres anything that can be done about this. maybe if they took a new sti and compared the brakes to mine. its downright awful.

Have you adjusted the brake pedal free play? Search this site. Someone, I think Nhluhr, posted some detailed instructions.

I've had to adjust mine a tremendous amout to make it feel like another STi that I drove.

Buy some speed bleeders, do it yourself, and never pay the stealership to do it again. End of story.

I searched and didn't find anything... Someone said something about a bolt but if there are any pictures I'd really think that would help...

Does this bolt that is adjusted actually move the pedal physicaly? I want to cut a lot of the "mush" in the beginiing and have my brake pedal kick in sooner.

Thanks,
-Nigel
