Default New pads question after a Malibu Canyons ride...

I installed POSIQUIET from STOPTECH, very unexpensive set very well recommended since I was looking tha same prformance as OEM but cleaner wheels. I want with few guys to the Canyons in Malibu, while coming down I decided to try the new pads carefully and I used the brake a little bit more than needed jus t to see performance when heated.

The results: the cars stoped pretty good, by the end I smelled the pads but never noticed fade, maybe a little decrease in bit but I am not even sure it might be just me. At the end we stop at a gas station just coming out the canyon and smoke was coming out of my rotors/pads.

Since I did not notice any decease in perfornace that worried my but the smoke did... Is this regular under hard braking?????

Thanks guys!!!!

Good question.

After autoxing/hard driving where Im on the brakes they will tend to smoke since youve just used them to their max capacity. The brakes will also smell, pretty badly too.

I installed the pads and drove them easy for around 100 miles, now they have around 200 miles. I am not sure about bedding????

damn...

lets just say im glad you are OK..seriously.

Basically you were driving on pads that werent even properly bedded in which was dangerous to say the least.

That smoking you saw was part of the bed in process, however you need to go do the bed in all over again.

Do some research because Im not sure about pad specific bed in procedure, but they are almost nearly the same for all pads.

For hard driving you may want to consider some non-oem brake fluid and steel braided lines!

After reading an article, I think that I beded or broke in the pads or staring the process. I guess that I am going to bed them now right.

Id say go find an open road where you can go about 80mph, and do repeat braking hard, down to about 15-20mph atleast 10-15 times.

Your brakes will start to smoke toward the end HARD.

Good luck.

damn i havent heard of bedding like this before... i thought u just do 1 or 2 hard stops, but i actually noticed after putting 2000 miles on my car and braking hard occassionly(sp?) from like 70-0 multiple times that the pads are kinda broken in and recquire more force to stop than when new... so i guess i did " bed " my brakes

1-2 stops? No way, gotta get that material heated up to get rid of the top layer of the pads.

Its basically mating up the pads to the rotors.

If you didnt do atleast 10 brake downs and saw alot of smoke, you should re do it.

Those were the directions on my ferodo pads, and I think stop tech has the same type of thing.

haha yah i guess i need to break/bed them in... im reading some articles on it.... i have the oem pads which means the bedding process is gunna be less severe then maybe an aftermarket more racing geared pad.

btw; is it okay to do the bedding process on a hill ( and its a steep hill at that )

On the boxes of hawk brake pads I know they give you the directions step by step on how to bed the brakes properly. Check the box you got/any pieces of papers.

The PosiQuiet pads are pre-scorched so they dont have to go through the green fade process, although there is some green fade which you seem to have experienced. This would have been much worse on non scorched pads. The smoking is somewhat normal for new pads as the paint on the backing plates cooks off but is not an issue overall.
