Default RCE "cool brake kit" on STI

Ive looked around and cant find reviews of RCE's brake hose kit. I am about to order a set and hook them up to my stock fog light hole, unless someone has a better inlet idea. They look well designed and all of RCE products seem decent. Anyone have a better idea for me? $300

I already run Brakeman rotors and calipers with #3 pads and love them! My problem is that I am running them at or above their allowable heat range and wearing them out too fast (full weight car, better power, and good lap times). They are outgassing (turning white around edges?) and only last 1-2 track days depending on the track.

Thanks in advance for your insightful and informed responses.....

Obviously I am a bit biased but I think they are an essential upgrade for any car that sees a good amount of track time. I had them on my car all of last season and I saw a noticeable difference in fade resistance and pad life. If you ask Myles he can give you the exact data, but these ducts allow a reduction in rotor temps of a few hundred degrees. Well worth it if you ask me.

Welcome to the world of driving your car well, the brakes will wear something fierce when the pace is turned up.

The Vettes go through rotors about every-other track day and pads go through about every day or every-other. This is with full ducting. Thankfully NAPA sells good rotors for $28 each!!!! The biggest issue is cracking on the rotors (without ducting), then pad wear WAY beyond anything I had anticipated.

This season will be the STI's turn, so RCE hub ducts will be going on. Anything one can do to flow air through the vanes is a good thing, and a proper ducting set-up does more for anti-fade than most BBKs.

Overall, it's just good practice to duct.
Be good,
TomK

If you have a good race shop near your home they can probably make you some custom ducting for roughly the same price. That is what I did, I got some great custom ducting that does not hang below the car but through the fender liners and to the rotors. All in all about $500, for parts and labour.

I say buy this kit. You really do notice it. It is well worth the price and a lot of time went into it. The only thing I am going to try different this year is where the inlets are. I had used OEM fog light bezels with good results but in talking to EasyStreet (who used the RCE kit in last year's Long Beach GP), they suggestted moving the inlets under the front bumper. They said they weren't getting as clean of air as they had thought from the front and noticed a difference from placing the inlets underneath. As a matter of fact, they gave me there Cusco under tray thet has inlets built into it. But either way it is air to the brakes.

Yes, give RCE a call and they can set you up.

I run them on our One Lap of America car, and they have helped reduce brake temps, however if you are fast then you are going to kill pads, I run stoptechs with PF01s and I kill a set of pads about every 2 to 3 track days, thats the price of being fast.

Best response yet !!

So true. I almost feel like telling people , if you even have to think about ducting, you shouldnt be out there. WHY???? well a simple walk thru ANY Speed, IMSA, Grand Am, pit or paddock would tell you why. ALLL the cars have ducts, and not something rigged either. Good alloy or Carbon ducts getting the air to the center of the rotor.

No brainer really.

We have people that buy BBK for the STI instead of at least trying the ducting. (shakes head).

Hey Myles!

I want my MTV.... I mean my RCE brake ducts!

I was told that they are at least 3 weeks away, any chance of getting them sooner, even if they are unpainted or ????

I'm racing this Sun and wish I had them by now

My next race is at big Willow on the 27th, any chance of pushing the date up for that?

Thanks, your loyal brake fader...
