Is the sound from the brakes grinding, then goes away when you press?

If so it may be the indicators scraping your rotor, which means you need new pads. Just pull off a front tire and look at the pads and the indicator to see how close it is to the rotor

good luck

See, this is what is unclear to me.

People say the STi is a track ready car, so to me that means:

Take it to the track, come back and everything should hold up...........or perhaps not.......

I would imagine the Brembos would hold up for at least 1 track day......

I would not be surprised if you warped your rotors a little and that is why you are getting wierd noises. Sounds like you need new pads and rotors. Dont buy them through Subaru though, unless you like paying out the nose. Search over our for sale threads and sponsor sites for prices.

IF the rotors are warped just find a machine shop to fix them. Its usually like 15 bucks a rotor where i go.

If the rotors are warped don't give up on them without seeing if they can be brough back to spec.

Yes a lathe can clean up your rotors if they are warped (it can also see if they really are warped).

Just do this....Take a wheel off ( wherever the sound is coming from ) and take your caliper off the brakes. The rotor will slide out (may need a hit from a deadblow hammer). Take that rotor to any service center that fixes cars. Ask them to check it to see if its warped, if it is, have them cut it!

What pad are you running? Check your pad life, check out your rotors. It probably is just pad material transfered onto the rotor and now that you are driving home you are going to be getting noise from them, it will probably do this for a little while you probably just need to "scrub" that material off (should happen from street driving eventually). This happens to me with my HPS pads a decent amount after getting em hot.

Hope that helps, and hopefully thats all that has happened.

Yeah its totally normal. Mine do it all the time after the track. Are you getting pedal oscilations? If not then your rotor probably is not warped.

Did you use your parking brake right after you got off the track? That can warp your rotors. Always use a lap to cool down your brakes and when you park in the pit, leave the car in gear and don't ever engage your parking brake.

The STI is definitely fit to hit the track right off the showroom floor. Just have to take some precautions.

the stock pads are really the only track day "weak" point. The stock pads can't take that much heat and after a couple good laps the pedal will start to get mushy.

the parking brake uses the drum. but you are right. you should always do a cool down lap, not just for the brakes, for the motors sake too.

They hold up extremely well. Go to an event, put real brake fluid in, add track pads, stop hard enough to kick in the ABS after every straight and watch your passenger freak out. A stock belt will bruise your chest with our Brembo binders. His problem lies elsewhere.

The STI is track ready. Add decent brake fluid and track pads and go kick some butt. On a 10 turn, 2.2 mile course, I was only 1 second behind my friend in his Porsche 993 (with coilovers, race tires, race seats and harnesses) in my bone stock STI (pads and brake fluid).

We're in the same class in NASA time trials, I think he's nervous, as I can do all the bolt ons and still remain in class.
