Default Question regarding Hawk HPS install & shims

I finished installing my Hawk HPS pads today and while installing the front, I wasn't sure if I needed to use the 2nd shim - the larger black one that fits between the pad and the triangular metal shim. I tried installing them with both, but the pad wouldn't fit in the caliper. The front Hawk HPS pads look like they have that same shim built right into the pad, so I just installed the triangular piece. Everything is working fine and the pads are great, but I want to make sure I don't need that 2nd shim.

Thank you in advance.

I just use the one metal shim and it works great, no noise at all.

I'm going to install my hawk hps pads this weekend, never changed brake pads before, but it looks really easy after watching the HSPN video in how to.

Question is: what are the stock shims? The video notes that they are not shown. What do the stock shims look like, where do they go, what are they there for?

Thanks

yea dont worry about only using 1 shim its fine.

a shim is a thin metal piece that helps eliminate brake squeal. when you take the stock pads off you will see the 2 shims on the back of the pad. when you put the new brakes on you probably wont be able to get all of them back on and thats fine.

Oh, just the metal piece between the back of the pad and pistons? That's easy, thanks.
