Default Loud Brake Squeak

Ok so when I back my sti up and I lightly push the brakes or just when I push them, they squeak, or whine really loud. I only have 12k on my car too.

me too.... but I am about to change my pads. I was at a Costco yesterday backing up and some guy came up to me after I got out of the car. He asked if my brakes always squeek. I said I was about to change them and that might be why. He said he just bought an 06 STI and has 1K miles on it and his brakes squeek too. whats up with the squeek?

I'm pretty sure the reverse squeak is a common problem on STi's..

I have an 05 with 11K miles and i get the squeek. I just had my car in for maintance (didn't realize i was supost to go in at 7500 so i just went in) they inspect the brakes on that checkup and didn't tell me anything, so i'm assuming my brakes are fine.

when your brakes Squeek/ Screech Everytime you need new break pads. In my case it only happens some of the times. maybe At Most 1 use of the brakes per driving session. almost always early on. (maybe its cuase they are cold ? ) snowy? dirty? dusty?

my *Guess* is that its normal, but maybe call the dealership ?

They squeak if it's cold outside. If the weather gets better I've never got any squeaks. Normal with the stock STi pads.
In reverse, you might also get a clunk noise. The pad is moving backwards. Expected. You will hear one more clunk noise when your press the brake pedal as you go forward. This is becauase the pad is moving forward again.

The "backing up brake squeel" is completely normal. I even get it when going forward and turning + braking @ full lock when in parking lots. As many may notice on other cars w/ similar or more exreme braking systems, there will be consequences to having such great breaking power (IE noise, dusting, squeeling). Once those big pads get bedded in, they only prefer to be ground one way, and when suddenly they start going backwards, they will complain. Being in a cold climate definately makes it more pronounced too.

I've always found that a few panic stops from hwy speeds (like 85-35) really seem to refresh the disc surfaces for me (2005 sti w/ 12,000mi.). The discs tend to get a little bit glased over with lots of city driving w/ light braking and need to exfoliate sometimes

I have a 2006 sti with only 3000km. It has been squeaking for awhile now.
It squeaks once going forward then also going backwards and keeps doing this back and forth. Went to dealer they say its normal and that all sti's do the same.

HP+ compounds from Hawk are known to have squealing as well, and we have done something about this.

After years of research, development and tests, we are proudly announcing the release of RB high performance brake shims (brake noise and heat insulator) that will provide the solution to alleviate the squeaky noise associated with performance pads braking or even stock pad set up with money back guarantee result.

RB High performance brake shims also allow drivers to use more aggressive brake pads without generating the annoyed and embarrassing noise with the additional benefit of shielding the heat transmitting to caliper and improve your brake performance both on street and track.

The RB high performance shims sounds interesting. Will it be able to withstand track temperatures of 1000F+ ? I read that silicone can handle only up to around 500F temps.
