Exclamation 31k new front pads? RU kidding me

I need new front pads at 31,000. I don't drive terribly hard. Plenty of highway. $299 for new Brembro pads. Any better rates out there?

yeah, how the heck did you get 31k on them. I barely managed 12k??

you definitely are braking very easily.

There are many pad options from Ferodo, Mintex, Hawk, Pagid and others. Most are less expensive than the Brembo pads, but are not going to be in the $29 range.

the Braking forum here has quite a few reviews of pads, depending on what price range and braking performance you want.

I agree. 31K is amazing for a set of brake pads on a car like this. I've got under 4700km on my car and the pads are at about 60% (1 low-speed track day, 1 autox, mostly street driving) I expect to be replacing them by next summer.

Don't buy replacement Brembos. They work fine but they dust way too much. I'd recommend a set of Hawk HPS. They stop harder and dust less. You can normally pick up a set for $200, but check out this group buy on Nabisco:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=818898
That's a great price, I plan to pick up at least 1 set at this price.

The pads are under warranty till 36k/3 years. I would have the dealership replace them for free.

I got 24K out of mine and I do a lot of highway driving - I went with Cobb Pads on the fronts. You may as well just do the rears as well. My rears are gone now and I have 31K. I got Hawk pads for the rear ($75).

Pads are wear items, I think you would have to show a mechanical defect that wore the pads out prematurely to have them replaced under warranty.

My new pads ran me $300, but they rock!

They seem to dust but the dust is not corrosive like the Brembo dust. They bite harder too!

I had to replace my pads at 2,200 miles when they were at 30% . 31k is...amazing.

Hmmm. On page 6 of the warranty book it says "Wear item coverage is 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Items covered are brake pads/shoe inings, clutch disk linings, and wiper blades." I know for sure if I have any problems with my wiper blades the dealership replaces them for free until that warranty is up, because I asked the service adviser about it. And I'm pretty sure brake pads are the same.

And when I look under exclusions for the warranty it says that these things will not be covered if the car is used in racing or for commercial use, so it seems to me that pads replaced before 3 years, 36k miles are replaced at SOA's expense.

My pads lasted 25k with a s-load of AutoX on them.

Now I think I am nearing rotor replacement at 30k, what do you guys think?

How long are the rotors lasting? (sorry to hi-jack)

Got to grab the "calipers" from work to check the thickness. Probably will check tonight.

Thanks,

My friend is a Subaru tech and the first set of pads are covered under the warranty, assuming you need them before 3yr/36k.

Subaru will charge me $300 for the replacement pads. No idea on the install cost. They did say they may be able to help with the cost due to the warranty. No real promise on how much though. I went to a local shop and he said they could get me hawk pads for $100 +$50 installed. He didn't say which ones. I am hoping they are the HPS. They claim to sell everything at wholesale. Stills seems pretty low considering the $200 quote above. What would you guys do? I am thinking about trading my 04' in for a 06' when they arrive here in MA (6-8 weeks).

Nope. I wanted my pads swapped out for Carbotechs and when I scheduled my appt the dealer he stated that if my pads were worn down I could get them replaced under warranty. At the time my car was 1 yr old.
