| Junior STI Driver | Sup guys, i got 25k mi. on the sti. its an 04. im doin a brake flush and new pads goin in. i went with stoptech posiquiet pads from turn in concepts. i will write a short review about them when i get some info. its my frist time changing the pads so i want a little help and tips from the experts. Im looking for a FAQ but i might just not be looking hard enought. I was wondering if i could get a list of the required tools and sizes needed. Also is this something i should try as a first timer or am i better off taking it somewhere to get it done? Any links to any helpfull websites are also greatly appreciated. THanks guys for the and info. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

I bought a great set of craftsman tools and have saved a TON of labor costs using them. Theres a how to video on subie.tv here i found these: DIY: How to bleed STI Brembo brakes and this is the complete how to: HSPN How-To Series on Brake System Maintenance (Pads, Lines, Fluid) |

| Junior STI Driver | wow thanks for the great info. I do have tools at home so i think im ok on that. The only thing i need help on is getting all the rotors off so i can have them resurfaced. The rotors dont look to bad, but for safety and better performance i would rather have them resurfaced. Thanks for the help, now if some one could help me get my rotors off. |

And messing with it poses the possibility of stripping out the threads from the calipers. If there is rust and all on the bolts when you get it out make sure u clean it up with a wire brush and antiseize the bolt lightly. When you put the caliper back on be care ful and thread the bolt thru the bracket and into the caliper by hand dont try to pull the caliper in and stuff, a lot of guys strip threads like this. And if you do strip threads well my friend there are helicoils so its not the end of the world...take your time with it |

If this is you're first pad change and it's an '04 chances are you'd be better off just getting new rotors. How many miles on the car, and what type of driving? Pics of rotors? |

| Junior STI Driver | the car has 25k. the rotors look like they still have life left. I will post pics later today so you guys can give me your opinions. As far as my driving goese, its my DD, but i started truck driving 18 wheelers so it dosent get much use anymore except when im back home. I will probally never track it until i get new rotors and get some more suspension mods and get tuned. |

| Junior STI Driver | hey guys i just steped out to feel my rotors and they feel pretty darn smooth. i can feel just a tad groove but nothing to ***** about. the thing that is a tad bit noticeable is the outside of the rotor has a " lip ". umm im guessing its normal wear and tear. So do you guys think i should turn my rotors since they feel pretty darn smooth? |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | that lip is just coz the rotor is a tab bit bigger than the pads if that makes sense to you. FWIW I track my car and I go thru 3 sets of pads and never bother to resurface my rotors. But thats not a good practise or accepted. I would do it if I had brake vibration. And I run race pads so I bed them in properly and never had any issues. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (7) | take a micrometer and measure your rotor to see if there's enough meat left on it. and if you're wondering if you should resurface or not... well, does it vibrate when you brake? and i hope you know, but when you resurface, you're pretty much making the rotor thinner. so in either case, take a micrometer to it and check to see if it's within spec. the minimum thickness should be stamped on the rotor (i forgot what it was). |
