Default porterfield r4s LOUD!!

I have an 04 sti, and came with Hawk HP+ pads. Man, was it loud. I had porterfield r4s in my old gc8, and was quiet, so I decided to swap out the hawks with them in the sti. After the pads settled in, these became just as loud. I even have the shims in there. Any ideas to get rid of the noise?

Did you put in R4s or R4Ss?

The R4 is more of a track pad with a hard compound. The R4S is more of a street pad and quieter.

Other than using some anti-squeal goop on the back of the pads, I don't have any suggestions.

I ran those pads for about 20K miles - they weren't noisy for me. All you can do is chamfer them, slob on brakequiet, and hope for the best.

Yup, they're R4-S. I guess I'll try the liquid stuff.

My R4S are quiet too...maybe they misplaced the R4's with the R4S's?

I run r4's and there not that bad. I only run them at the track and maybe on my way to the track.

I run the R4S's on mine, and they are pretty quiet until I am driving slowly and apply the brakes, then I get a bit of sqeal.

I also find that going forward then braking, then reversing then braking (like when I'm trying to park in my parking stall) the pads on the front sound like they are shifting all over the place. I get lots of sqeak/clacking. Still don't have a fix for this.
