Default subaru tech said no to ATE fluid?

I had my SS lines installed today at my dealership and the tech who worked on my car (08 STI) said not to use ATE Super Blue fluid because of the amount of water that it can absorb and he also said that it could cause damage to my ABS pump?

Seriously. Countless numbers of track cars are using ATE fluid on stock braking systems with no problems. As long as you take care of you're brakes, the fluid will be fine.

ATE absorbs less water than Motul and I have been using Motul in my 05 STi for 2 years now without issues. Just bleed your brakes every 4 months or so if you don't track your car, and before every track day if you do track it.

ALL brake fluid except 1 absorbs water. That's the nature of the fluid.

The one that does not is dot 5, and it is intended for restoration projects and not driving.

Please note dot 5 and dot 5.1 are entirely different. whomever came up with the naming system to do that is about as smart as your tech.

thanks for the replies guys. I just agreed with him and left it at that. I am going to have the fluid put in before my next HPDE on July 14th at Watkins Glen. And the lines made such a huge difference, it is like a different set of brakes.

Every tech. will steer you anyway from anything that is aftermarket. If he suggests something that isn't genuine Subaru, he is putting his job on the line. If for some freak reason the fluid destroys something, he is at fault for giving you the green light to run the stuff. If he tells you to run Subaru fluid and it destroys something, Subaru is at fault.

I have used ATE blue at numerous HPDE's without any problems.

Amen, I'd tell you the exact same thing about ATE fluid. #1 rule in retail automotive service; Cover your ass. Especially at a dealership, you almost have to speak to customers like a lawyer.
Besides, that super duper high-temp synthetic brake fluid is really only for the track. You won't (shouldn't) boil your brake fluid driving on the street.
