Default 2016 STI Fine Knock Learn after Protune

Hello,

I have a 2016 Subaru STI that is currently protuned in Southern California on 91 ACN and my accessport is indicating that I have consistent fine knock learn in a certain RPM range whether I drive normally or I go WOT. I have attached some cruising logs and some 4th gear WOT pulls. Can I get some input on this issue? Thank You

Mine usually does the same thing. not at WOT but 50% or or so on the gas pedal and around 3200 rpms. My DAM never changes but I get the fine knock as well. I don't think you need to worry about it but that is just my opinion. I range from -(1.40) (- 5.80). Mostly only hit 1.4 to 2.8 can always ask your tuner to make sure its okay.

Hey thanks for your reply. I asked my tuner and these datalogs are from his 1st revision. I consistently get fine knock learn everytime around the same RPM. I emailed him these same datalogs and am waiting for his response/another revised map.

Hard to tell from the logs. Can't see if you are at 100% throttle meaning foot slammed on the gas all the way through the pull. but I would say based on the data you are okay . Not sure you will never get any fine knock.

I have never gotten feedback knock only fine knock learning and DAM has always been 1. All 3 datalogs of the 4th gear pulls had 100% throttle position when the fine knock learn happened.

Take what I have to say with a grain of salt.

Reference: https://www.cobbtuning.com/subaru-knock-monitoring-and-dit-knock-logic-changes/

It looks like you're only getting FineKnock learning which is okay since the ecu is adjusting your timing to prevent a knock situation under that load/rpm. Fine knock is applied to prevent any Feedback knock from happening(or that's how I interpret Cobb's explanation)

Cobb states:
In general, we consider Feedback Knock Correction ~-2.5 degrees or less to be “normal” and not of major concern. If DAM is below the ideal value and there are corrections beyond -2.5, this is good reason for further inspection. If these corrections occur during full boost and wide open throttle it is especially concerning.

You're not getting any feedback knock at all so I think you're in the clear. But as always ask your tuner to be 100% sure you're risking your motor.

It is doing what it is supposed to.....applies timing changes based on what it learned from prior feedback knocks.

What kind of power it puts down from the 1000 cc injectors? Just curious.

Right now I'm making 260 WHP on a DynoJet and I forget how much torque, I would have to look at my dyno sheet.

Also an update: My tuner got back to me and said those numbers are nothing to worry about. I'm planning on going E85 within the next month along with a Tomei equal length header/up pipe.

Everything looks fine. The newer STi's are SUPER sensitive to knock. Subaru changed the system to be very proactive in dealing with potential kncok situations vs. older model STi's. I think it was around 2012 that they did this. This is why you don't see many ringlanding failures of late (most failures nowadays are spun bearings). Anything -2.8 and under is normal and it is normal to see over -2.8 on occasion. If your DAM stays at 1 you are fine. If you see extraordinarily high knock seemingly at random it's probably the ECU being proactive in pulling timing or bad gas. I don't see anything here to be worried about.

Do you have a wideband sensor post turbo on your set up? If not, you should get one to ensure proper AF ratio. With the level of modification you have I am surprised that your tuner didn't highly recommend/require a wideband sensor (if he didn't).
