Default Snow tires

I'm a newbie when it comes to this. I've had my 15 STI for about 6 months now. I need to buy winter tires as we just had 8 inches of snow here and I was sliding all over the place. So my questions are, can I put 17s on without changing anything? Here's a link to the tires I want. I will add the rim as well. Will these be able to just pop right on?

Yes. Just make sure you specify your vehicle type and you will get options for 17" for snows. I have the Blizzak 80s on 17 and they are FANTASTIC in the snow. I throw them on as soon as the temps stay in the 40s, usually Thanksgivingish and take them off in April. I live in Chicago. Stock tyres are worthless with cold temps. They turn hard as plastic, so be careful out there.

Thanks! Now, I'm ordering from tirerack.com. Do I have to include the TPMS sensors and mount and balance? Or can I just say mount and balance not required?

Most of us skip the TPMS to keep cost down. It's just a dash light you deal with for a few months. Keep an eye on your tire pressures.

FWIW not all 17s will clear the front brake calipers, however Tire Rack is good about excluding wheels that otherwise seem to fit but would not clear the brakes.

It's up to you where you get them mounted. Some places may give you grief abt the tpms sensors, just say its for an older model that didn't use them.

I had mine done by Tirerack. No TPMS, just deal with the dash light.

Definitely do the mount and balance. It's free and they seemed to do good job with mine. Unless for some reason you don't want the tires mounted on the wheel...

No TPMS unless you can't be bothered to check your tire pressure regularly.

don't spend a lot of money on a winter tire, even a cheap winter tire is going to be many many times safer in cold and snow than the stock summer tires or an all season.

General Altimax gets good scores. I used Dunlop Winter sports and they were INCREDIBLE in the snow. Now I just use an off brand, "Imperial snow dragon" and they were pretty much on par with the Dunlops at less than half the price each per tire, in this latest snow storm here and they are V rated. I think I paid 64 each for the 17's.

craiglist snow tires for me. Found some the exact same size as the stock rims. I just take the car to the shop and remove the OEM tires and put on the winters... cheap blizzak tires with good tread, i dont have to buy a set of winter rims and no dash light for the tpms sensor

sure it costs $ to swap them butttttt when i pick up aftermarket summer rims the stock OEM's will become my winter rims which now have to correct winter tires on them
