the whole point of going to a hatch was to reduce weight, so i can't see why subaru would choose this to gain weight.
i also thought we were going to get twin scroll right off the bat.
the us sucks.

I have to break some hearts here.

Looks like the Recaroīs ARE NOT FOR THE US MARKET... Optional for Japan and Europe as of now... Maybe US added later?

I'll tell you this, if the US market gets some dumbed down, pig heavy, no option STi, I'm so out it's not funny. I'll just end up settling on a WRX for the wife and I and wait until Subaru gets its act together. I'm sorry but with possibly the exception of Japan, North America (i.e. not just the US) probably accounts for most of Subaru's Impreza sales. So why do we keep getting the short end of the stick again?

As I said, I'll be waiting until Oct 24th for more information but there is no way I'll be picking up a new STI if we get the shafted model with only the cupholder package. It's sad too because I love the look of the new STI.

IMO the local rules and regulation are limiting all the Subie fun you can have stateside as far as engine performance is concerned.

Other features are down to the cost of production & assembly, which is higher in North America as we know it. You can have all the JDM goodies, but the final price is going to be way higher, hence affecting the overall sales.

sad but true.

?

The Imprezas are imported from Japan and not built in the Indiana plant like the rest of Subaru's lineup. So there are no "additional" production costs. The difference in weight between the 2.0L and 2.5L is negligible. There is no reason they cannot offer North American's the option of Sparcos/Recaros/some bucket seat, 6-pot brakes, aluminum roof/hood/trunk, aluminum lateral links, which are all available in Japan. I know the Japanese keep the best for themselves, but we should at least have access to the same stuff the Euro market gets.

If anything, we are more likely to spend money on these sorts of upgrades.

It´s possible that this thing here is not "final". Maybe a black "Line options" dot will appear on the North American box next to the Recaro option before launch but I don´t know why on Earth the US model is stated to be heavier.

We will have to wait and see how much more expensive the top end version will be. My feeling is that SOA screws us over with cheaper parts but charges us top dollar. Just as with every other US company. Poor quality for top $$$! And we just take it up the ass!
