Yea, BMW are also the ones responsible for the whole 186mph speed limiter on motorcycles. All because of that stupid Hayabusa commercial in Europe, but still, they're the ones who made the whole big issue out of it. Made me lose all respect for them regarding performance vehicles.

It isn't that they are making tuning difficult, but they are just making detection of tuned vehicles easier. Why should they pay for someone breaking their machine after adding 150+ hp at the block via some simple bolt ons and EM... It's one of the reasons I won't buy one, but you really can't fault them for doing it.

from 1addicts I heard BMW's new ECU can detect re-flash and void the warranty... only matter of time every manufacture will start doing this. car manufactures should have done this a long time ago to avoid powertrain warranty work on modded cars.

Why would you WANT that?

The '08 needs a Stage 1 just to run properly, and not stumble and fall flat on it's face after 5K rpm... so you think people should just "deal with it" or void their warranty all together?

Luckily, even WITH the stage 1 tune, my local dealer will warranty my vehicle, and even suggested the AP...

Yeah for some reason I highly doubt this. I highly doubt that your dealer is going to pay for work rejected by SOA because you have an aftermarket tune with a device not approved by Subaru

Just spend the few extra dollars on the Dinan reflash and be done with it so that if something goes wrong with the motor its covered by BMW

i say that because its the manufacture's job to get the tune right, not us. we should just refuse to buy the car until they get it right instead of spending an extra $600 on AP and get the warranty voided on a brand new car... thats BS.

btw the dinan reflash will void the warranty on the new v81 ECU too... most ppl are going after the SSTT now... (split second)

The dealer decides whether or not to warranty work... not Subaru. SOA wouldn't even know about the Stage 1, because the dealership takes care of that at THEIR level.

I can give you the name and number of the tech and the dealership, if you don't believe me...

Back years ago (and maybe still) when I was in Dallas, there was multiple dealers that used to put stage 1 and 2 packs on stock WRX's and warranty them.

If you're worried about the dealership finding out about a reflash then you can always use a piggyback ECU that works with an unflashed stock ECU. You could also buy another ECU and swap them.

Vishnu uses the piggyback approach for the 335i.

Vishnu Performance Systems

There is a Suby alternative as well (can't remember the name), but flashing the ECU is now the standard way to go.

It's fast... but I can't have a 2-seater with NO storage...

Would be fun, but only as a second, or third car...
