I'd be really surprised if the 08' STI even hits our shores at all! Mid August 07' and there not out yet???? My prediction is the STI skips a year for the US and we'll see the 09'....

This is what I'm batteling with. BMW is awesome, I've had it (330CI) and excellent suspension, and I had S/C Z06 (700 hp) that I recently sold, but deep down, I'm still an STi or Evo guy. Not even my Z would put a smile on my face than an STi would. It's a hardcore car. I saw an STi with APS package on it, that would kill any Corvette or porsche off of a 2.5 liter engine.

I have driven STi and the new 335 and the STi felt much stronger, even both being 300HP.

I'm not feeling the look of the 135(x)i. Something about the styling of this:

just isn't doing it for me. The 335i shape is WAY better IMO. Something just isn't doing it for me, but I can't put my finger on it.

I'd say 08 STI - it'll have the agressive (although very contested) looks to go along with it's balls. BMW = expensive mods, expensive maintenance. STI = cheap(er) mods, cheap maintenance.

To me, BMW stigma not worth it at 25. STI stigma, sure

I agree that they are apples and oranges.

Case in point: I would not even try to fit 2 baby seats in the back of a 135.

The 135's proportions make it look strange in a Coupe form. I feel it looks better in the hatch form that Europe has already...

It would actually have to be straight at 33K OTD to make me consider one...

135. It's lighter and would make a great track car.

On another note:
I don't see a 135 capable of taking the same abuse an STI would like playing on the dirt roads, mud etc and then hunting for 135 likes on the paved roads. Even if the 135xi (like someone mentioned here) comes with AWD I still don't see it. Perhaps the review on the x5 series was a negative factor where the reviewers said that it was just a pretty suv for the urban environment and too and weak to take it on the real off roads.

Sorry but the BMW 135 FTW TT and inline 6 add a chip, downpipe and exhuast and you are king of the road in my honest opinion.

I think it all comes down once both cars are lined up and reviewed and have myself both tested it to make a final decision. It is nice to know that there will be more options out there other than Evo's. Until then...

Many of you don't know how to keep the faith. Subaru will deliver one hell of a new STI. Who gives a rat's crapper if it's hatch. Only dewshhh bags drive beamers.
