I have to say. I saw two 135is in person last week.
It's just like the 08 STi, hard to appreciate in pictures alone.
The roofline is a LOT lower in person than it seems like in pictures. It looks just like the baby 3 series should. Very nice.
have not driven one yet

I hate the 135i, it is my nemesis. I will probably hate the people driving them even more..."Look everyone, I can finally afford a bimmer! Aren't I teh cool!"

I hate okra too.

Figure spending around $2k-$3K will get you around 400whp (probably more) and very low 12's in the 1/4. How much would you have to spend to get a STi into the reliable 400whp range without touching the turbo or using meth?
I didn't know that bmw made "reliable" cars... That's just with stock hp. I can't imagine a tuned one.

It's funny how that symbol in the front and rear can influence so many people.

I own both and I think that they are two very different cars. I will soon be doing a full exhaust on the BMW and chip which will make it smoke the new m3. The bmw stock does laps around my STi. But two very different cars.

The 135i may very well struggle at the price, indeed. Saying that here is like the pot calling the kettle black. $40K for a Subaru Impreza is just as bad, if not worse. That be Corvette territory, and the performance difference between an STI and a Vette is huge. The STI has more utility, but it's still a small car and most families need something bigger anyway. Might as well get the minivan for utility and the Vette for your toy. Best of all worlds.
A very big +1

And everyone calling the 135i small, what about the STi? They're the same freakin' size both inside and out!!! The only advantage the STi has space-wise is the rear doors and slightly more room up front.

Sure the 135i is expensive, but there's a reason for that. 90% of the parts in the car are straight out of the 3 series. Suspension (front), trans, engine, and loads of other stuff is the exact same equipment you'd find in a 3. You can't substainally discount a car from a better model when you're pretty much using the same parts. As mentioned before with a chip and exhaust these cars make 400whp easy and should easy outperform a 335 on the track.....

And after a Full Exhaust on the 135i and chip the car will only do 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds, where as the new M3 does it in 4.1 seconds. So now your car wont "SMOKE" the new M3, keep dreaming.

Anyways, like i said Its on.. Like donkey kong. Once again we have a rival with our 4 banger 4 door hatchback against a 2 door "I can finally afford a beamer" clown car. hahahahha

The M3 is a completely different animal but for a little cash you can get a 135/335 on par with the ///M speedwise. The 135 does 0-60 in 4.7 and very low 13s in the 1/4. M3 is 0-60 4.1 and mid 12's. Seeing how the 135s have only been available for a few weeks there really aren't too many modded cars out there. Some Modded 335's have been running very low 12's with only Engine Mgmt and a TBE. Imagine the same setup on car that is a few hundred pounds lighter...

However the ///M gives you so many things that you'd never get from a 1 series.

You'll have a car, granted it will never be an M3, that however is very similar if not faster than a stock M3 in terms of acceleration.

This maybe true, but then you start thinking about your warranty, and if you want to jeopardize that... Which we all know BMW parts are deathly expensive.

Yes parts are alot more expensive when compared to Japanese or American vehicles. I've also seen some BMW dealers void warrantys due to aftermarket engine mangement software if they're not 100% uninstalled before servicing.

You can easily get around the engine mgmt thing, but when you start messing with downpipes and such you're generally placing your warranty in jepardy especially if the tech who looks at your car is on top of his stuff.
