Someone also posted that BMW will honor your warranty with software…LOL..Good luck. My brother in law works as a tech at BMW and he told me that a couple months back they got need scan tools. This new system can detect any software to date on any BMW. In Canada they will void your warranty on 335 if they find out you have software. BMW is just like Subaru on this software thing. He said that they have already caught a few people and they were up s__ts creek in regards to warranty. One guy paid thousands out of his pocket because of motor damage.
You aren't considering an 08 are you Ian? I agree with pretty much everything you said, though I think Dinan is planning on offering a 5 year warranty on their reflash, but that might just be a US thing. With that said, I think a lot of people are just seeing the 380hp/400tq torque numbers and aren't considering the additional costs and hassles associated with that.

I also think the '08 STI makes a better track day car because it is (I'd imagine) much cheaper to repair and maintain and will likely have a bigger aftermarket.

Bottomline is that both are great cars.

The 1 series is the first BMW since the M Coupe that has got my attention. Should be a nice machine. For a daily driver car, I'd choose the STi as I have always been a fan of hatchbacks and the utility will obviously be greater in the STi.

As far as stereotyping Bimmers, M cars, whatever you guys wanna call them. That really falls on the owners of the cars. I've met alot more tools driving M cars than any other car. They think they are some kind of god, or that they're last name is Andretti or something. That is a joke. I like nothing more than embarrassing a BMW driver with a Japanese Turbo 4 banger.

Just one quick point ... the 1-Series is not THAT small (it is based off the E46). That back seats will be more than adequate for 2 normal sized adults. Who are we kidding? Passengers always asked me why my STi had 4 doors because the rear seats were so tight.

1 series isn't AWD, so it's out for me. If I wanted RWD I'd buy an '08 C6 over the 135i.

Well I am car shopping again. I have a few cars on my list. Skyline would be first choice. But wife is not happy about the price on that one. New BMW 335 4Dr, 08 STi or 08 Evo X.....

It's going to be a nice car. That Grey Poplar wood has to go though! So just over $40K for 135i with Sport and Premium pkgs. Not bad but I would be tempted to just pay the extra $5-6K and get the 335i instead.

After seeing more of the new GTR I am seriously thinking of trading my 05 STi for one instead of the new STi...that car is just sick imho. Markups and wait are 2 things holding me off though.

It looks like Perrin is doing a good job getting to work on the 2008 STI AP stage 1 reflash:
PERRIN Tunes 08 STI with AccessPORT!!! - Proven Power Bragging - NASIOC

The math is a little funky in that pic, but I see what he is getting at. 7K redline looks like it is back to. Top end greatly improved. I believe he is working on stage 2 results next.

Are you assuming that people are buying the 1 series over the STi for ass? It's about the 300hp in a 3200-3300 car that Actually looks good! unlike the budget looks of a hatchback....Measly? might as well call the STi measly as well since they both cost roughly the same with ST being a touch higher.

If you need a car to get you ass, then you have no game at all.
What people think of your car, well only shallow, soul less busters worry about that. What you own doesn't define you.

Except some of us find it ugly. The car weight closer to 3400, not 3200. Winding road reported 3373lbs and the EU brochure lists unladen weight at 1560kg (3440lbs.) It'll be a great car just like the STI. Hopefully, it comes with an oil cooler though...
