Are they planning for a BMW 1 series Xi?

Based on the pricing info in a previous post in this thread and the recently released pricing for the STi, the STi and 1 series are not too far off of each other price wise.

135i
Base with destination: $35,675
Sport Package: $1,000
Navigation: $2,100
Bluetooth: $750
Premium Stereo: $875
Total: $40,400

STi
Base with Destination: $35,640
BBS Wheels: $2,000
Navigation with Bluetooth: $1,800
Total $39,440

Trying to equip each model similarly, there is only about a $1,000 difference. That is tough territory for a Subaru, even an STi.

Weight for the new 1 series should be less than the STi, just under 3,300 lbs.

Since the price is nearly the same I would choose a BM'er any day. The STi looks like a$$ and has not had any real improvements on the engine or drive train since the '06. Reworking the formula's to pretend to get a HP increase is lame and basically demonstrates to me that Subaru is more interested in conning stupid people out of their money than in producing a world class car. Subaru isn't world class anymore, they have no class at all.

Here's a review where the rate the GTI ahead of the 135i. Seems the chassis isn't too good on the 1 series.

Of course the TT with the R32 driveline came in first.
UK's AutoExpress tested the BMW 135i, Audi TT 3.2, and the VW GTI.
But the 135i came in last. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/c....html

"If speed is your sole desire, then make a beeline for the BMW. Thanks to its twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre powerplant, the 135i is fast enough to wear an M badge – no doubt about it, the engine is a masterpiece. The trouble is, the rest of the car doesn’t manage to hit the same heights."

You beat me to it. I think that article is funny, as all the hoopla surrounding it by the fanbois gets kinda pawned. Still a viable choice though.

Still to expensive to keep in the long run.

Kevin and I decided to start a 1-Series forum for those of you who are interested in the new STi competitor from BMW.

I know most of you already are well aware of the specs but the 135i packs a twin-turbo Inline 6 cylinder engine that makes 300 hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque. The beauty of this award winning power plant is that with a simple re-flash of the ECU you get 380+ hp and 420+ ft/lbs of torque all wrapped up in BMW's superb quality and 4/50k mile full maintenance program/warranty. Potential 2008 STi owners should definitely cross-shop it with the 135i.

If you are interested, please let us know what you think and post on the new forum so we can start to build an IWSTI-like community.

These are completely different cars. I think they are both excellent cars. If you need a track car and still be a daily driver that can hold five people, then you should look at the STi. The 135i is basically a two seater; the rear seats can only accommodate small children. It is a great car for someone who will not need rear seats or a trunk. The trunk has almost no cubic space. Someone also posted that BMW will honor your warranty with software…LOL..Good luck. My brother in law works as a tech at BMW and he told me that a couple months back they got need scan tools. This new system can detect any software to date on any BMW. In Canada they will void your warranty on 335 if they find out you have software. BMW is just like Subaru on this software thing. He said that they have already caught a few people and they were up s__ts creek in regards to warranty. One guy paid thousands out of his pocket because of motor damage.

Nobody should let the warranty thing get in the way of shopping for a BMW. I think it is entirely appropriate to lose your warranty on components you modded and broke.

As for the 1series website concept - good idea, and good luck!
