If it's faster and still classed the same, I'd hit it.

hmmm well the #'s are bs " DOHC 2.0-liter flat-4 engine, expected to produce 300 horsepower and 431 pound-feet of torque. "

they are taking #'s from the 2.0 liter so its gotta be the rally car and no way they rae gunna have 431 lb of torque for the factory car.

at least its not absolutly hidious; the front does kinda resemble the pontiac goat, but haveing a mazda 3 type hatch is gunna suck. glad i gots my 07.

I hope the next gen will have a sedan or coupe body style. The look is not as ugly as some other renderings but it could still look better. 2 more months before all of us sees what the next impreza will look like. Im keeping my hopes high!

Well they might debut it at Rally Mexico (March 9-11) for WRC this year. Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson kept commenting on being excited to get the new Impreza at Rally Mexico.

I like the entire design besides the spoiler. They should offer a spoiler delete and take some money off the price. I assume the 431 Ft of tourque is a misprint.

Looking at the pictures of the prototype, I don't see how they could fit that spoiler on the back. It looks like they photoshoped a current STI spoiler and put it on the back of the hatch...I mean, how do they even attach that big of a spoiler on that sloping end of the hatch. UGH! If it turns out to be a hatch, I hope it doesn't look to hatchy....perhaps something like a RSX (which is actually a hatch, but looks very much like a coupe right? Or wait...maybe its just a coupe after all )

Not a big fan of the hatch idea or the looks of the new car. But hey, if they upgrade the engine, update the safety features with some curtain airbags and stability control that can be 100 % turned off, then I'd be up for that. Either weight loss, or horsepower increase. Or both!

431 lb/ft torque is way too much to be coming out of a 2.0L engine stock. I don't think so. Plus, how would that feel...with still the same 300 hp but jacking up the torque to 431? What a mid-end rush.

I'm glad they are apparnetly keeping the 6 sp manual on the STI. I think it's a fantastic gearbox. The EVO X will supposedly get two options, one of them being the DSG-like manumatic. This may make things interesting at the drag strip, or auto-x as those DSGs are quite handy, shift faster than humans can, and probably will come with some sort of "launch" software that will allow even your 80 year old grandmother to do zero to sixty in under five seconds. But of course, I'm glad they are also keeping the 5 speed manual as an option too.

they work until put more power down, then they get confused.

and the previous evo had launch control too.

i doubt they'll include an agressive one on the US Side model. The US E46 m3 doesn't have the agressive version b/c you can only use it 3 times before you need a new clutch. I'd hate to see how many times you could use the EVO's launch control before the clutch blew

I hope they keep the STi a 4 door sedan...

They have to, unless they're also changing their WRC STi into a 5 door hatch, because the public STi goes hand in hand with the WRC car...

where have you been?

the whole point of making the consumer one a 5 dr is to benefit for WRC, not the other way around.

the only reason we have an STi is b/c of Rally Racing these cars are built so Subaru can kick ass in Group N and WRC, they don't just "happen" to use some plan jane impreza in Rally.

they created the Impreza to Rally!

Possibly new info:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/au...u_impreza.html

and

http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/2270

Obviously Photoshopped (or at least it looks like it) but the two mags have very similar pictures. Could this be it? It's not bad, kind of SAAB- and Mazda Protege-ish. I still prefer my 05 look.

The interesting news is that apparently it will still only be 300bhp (so does that mean 293hp under the new rating...or 300 under the new rating?) If the car is lighter though, that could make a difference, though I don't see how a 5dr hatch, with the additional framing around the door, would be lighter. Getting interesting...lol.
