i'd have to agree. the only way i can think of them upping the torque by 131 lbs is increasing displacement (i can think of is honda s2000 going from 2.0 to 2.2 liter to up the torque while maintaining the same hp), and the HP will have to increase proportionately. the rules of rallye racing has displacement restriction at 2.0 liter, so i don't know about subaru increasing the displacement, either. hmmm...

Misprint maybe, supposed to be 341 ft/lb
This is more believable

No, the website says 300/318. So the earlier typo was probably corrected...

The 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI will be offered only as a hatchback, as we've already seen in the 2007 Subaru factory rally car. There's a strong possibility the car will feature a new multilink rear suspension. It will get a reworked version of the current intercooled and turbocharged DOHC 2.0-liter flat-4 engine, expected to produce 300 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque.
And I doubt it'll be a 2.0L.

Also, Tribeca to receive a "very nice" face lift for MY08.

Other changes for MY08 Tribeca:
  • Rear end design change (larger rear window, squarer back)
  • 7 passenger to receive revised third row entry and third row seating adjustments.
If only the H6 engine had more power I don't think COBB is going ahead w/ their one off supercharger kit.

I wouldn't dwell on the expected power output because those are probably the expected stats for the model in Japan, or just a wild guess. And I think it's a pretty safe bet they will continue to use the 2.5L in the states.

What does interest me is this quote from Edmunds:
"We've learned the 2008 Subaru Impreza hatchback is 5.1 inches shorter, 2 inches wider and virtually the same height as the current sedan. Entry-level versions will weigh in at about 3,086 pounds."

We'll have to wait and see if that's really true. The big question in my mind is what the wheelbase will be. But wouldn't it be interesting if the new STI was lighter than the new Evo? It just might become the more nimble car for a change.

The last I heard WRC lifted their 2l displacement restriction.

It was said that the number 431 was not ft-lbs it was Nm. Which translated to about 318ft-lbs.

There's more to it than just that. The Evo does have some other advantages in its design which makes it handle like it does.

But if the new STI is shorter, has a wider track, a longer wheelbase, a stiffer chassis, and a multi-link rear suspension all while being a lighter car than the current model, then that should make for quite an improvement.

It appears edmunds was quoting the autoexpress article. The edmunds article has been corrected to 318 ft-lbs.

These are definately photochop jobs. A quick look at the second image in the autoexpress article shows the current rear wing grafted onto the back of the hatch. It does show a small wing on the top of the rear glass. This would be in style with the rest of the WRC homologation cars.

These photochops are definately similar to the early spy shots on leftlanenews also.

Drop the add on wing and I think you have the base impreza picture.

I love it from the back! Nice. Except the wing. Not nice.

Edit: To be clear, I don't like receiving anal sex.
